I want to pick this trilogy up, but there's too many complaints about the packaging and I don't want to risk getting damaged discs. Have you guys had any issues swapping them out at Best Buy?

I just picked it up and today from Walmart with the movie cash. I will check these out this evening and if they are scratched bad or don't play I will exchange them. Has anyone tried to put these in the white sleeves and slide them into the insert in the package?

And even if they did, any screenshots would not be able to display HDR, as some have said, so it would be useless anyway.

Stop poo-pooing this release due to screenshots of outdated, processed Blu-rays. Don't be ignorant. The first Mummy in particular looks amazing.
You can't expect everyone to know such things. I don't keep up with physical formats for PC. Not like there is a sticky for newbies either.

So are the 4K discs just using the same master used for the original Blu-rays but without DNR, or did they actually remaster these movies? I'm hearing conflicting reports.

I got two sets and five discs were totally scratch free. Only one had scratches. Not defending the packaging, which is total ass, but I don't think people need to be concerned every package has lots of scratched discs in it. I removed mine, made sure they were scratch free, then put them in alternate packaging.

The set is very worth getting, the movies look truly great and the price is good.

As long as mine play I'm good I think another disc out the 6 had some minor scratches but I only loaded and checked the first 2 UHD's. The layout is kinda odd I was confused at first, I'll just keep them in packaging upright so they stay in place.

I went through 3 different sets with Amazon and they were all ****ed. The last set though had maybe only one or two small scratches per disc, the first two films played fine but Dragon Emperor freezes in the same spot every single time.

I put a ticket in with Universal, maybe they'll send me replacement discs like the other member has said they are, then I'll keep the replacement discs in separate cases as a precaution.

I watched Mummy Returns and Tomb Of The Dragon Emporer this week.

Returns looked quite good although a tiny step down from the first movie regarding PQ. It seemed just a tad less detailed to my eyes and the HDR grade was more subtle this time. Colors still looked good and some night scenes had great blacks though. Don't think this could have looked much better than it looks now so I'm happy with this. Still love the movie itself also, not as much fun as the original but still great fun nevertheless. I wasn't bothered by the CGI in UHD as much as I thought I would.

Watched on a 75X9405D (Self calibrated) + UB900.

Now Dragon Emporer really switches it up. HDR is much more pronounced here than the previous movies and some scenes were bright as hell! Lots of fine detail too and some scenes really had a nice sense of depth to it. Easily the best looking of the three. As for the movie itself, I take it for what it is. I don't find it as bad as most people do. Only thing I hate is they just had to keep the Evelyn character. They should have just written her out of the movie and have Bello play Fraser's new love interest.

Watched on a 65Z9D (ISF calibrated) + X800.

Still fiddling around with that damned packaging though...

I am surprised how amazing this first film looks. The Blu-ray always looked pretty terrible to my eyes, but this is a completely different beast. Amazing detail and grain structure, HDR in full effect, and only a few severe soft CGI shots here and there. But it's definitely a pretty consistent transfer from Universal. I'm surprised they pulled this off

Got to the Collection yesterday and popped in The Mummy for a viewing. All I have to say is...WOW... what a difference from the blu. The HDR looks fantastic in the film and definitely not overdone. No more rampant DNR either. Can't wait for Returns tonight, which was the only disc out of the 6 that had a little scratch on it, a;; the others were perfect. Hopefully it does not disappoint..

see stories like these are 100% deterrent from me purchasing this set until new packaging is released

universal cant get shit right, on bourne excellent packaging but shit transfers, now with mummy great transfers but shit packaging that ruins the discs

Universal got back to me; had to provide the Spine # and tell them which discs are the issue.

Said it will take 2-4 weeks for a replacement

There must be a disc shortage or something. Universal has yet to restock this at my store but they had no problem sending us 25 copies of the Steelbook.

So what about the Blu-ray, is it the "old one" or did they use whatever they did to the 4K version and press it onto a Blu-ray without HDR and in 1080p?

Unforgiven looks better on the Blu-ray that comes with the UHD so I'm curious

It's the same old blu with the DNR. Also you're wrong about Unforgiven.

Indeed. It's a pretty darn good catalog 4K release.

What do you mean I'm wrong about Unforgiven?
It looks a tad better I'm not saying it's a big improvement but the colors are better and we have a lossless audio track accompanying it.

I think he thought you were saying Unforgiven looked better on BD than UHD. But I assume you were just saying that the BD included with the new UHD release is better than the old BD, right?

This whole scratching debacle is interesting indeed. I'm really tempted to buy a cheap used copy from Amazon just to see what is going on. For $17+Shipping what can go wrong? :')
