Don't be put off by the first few minutes with all the subtitled scenes and vast bluscreen vistas and whatnot, it looks soft because that's just the nature of the optical beast. But when you get anything that's first generation like the various close-ups of the gorgeous Rachel Weisz, oh mai.

I watched the first hour of the first film and noticed some macro blocks and stuttering at around 45 min. I didn't check the disc itself for scratches. Played with a Panasonic DMP-UB900.

Try cleaning the disc. I had a lot of problems an hour in and after that, no issues.

Anybody get the British version from Amazon UK yet? It looks thicker, so I am assuming it has normal disc cases? I contacted Universal about two weeks ago about all six of my disc's having scratches and was requesting replacements.
I have received no reply at all. Does anybody have a direct e-mail for someone at Universal that can help? Thanks |

Nothing for the rest of the movie. The packaging is really not well thought and not worth the trouble. Simple cases in a box would have been sufficient. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah the PQ was surprisingly pleasing. The movie is nearly 20 years old. It was a pleasure to watch it again. I'm not expecting much of the third one though ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah, there's a little voice in the back of my head concerned about how aggressive the HDR is on all three of these. That can't be how they looked in theaters, film has more range than SDR Blu but not THAT much. When they look so f**king good though, that voice in my head is drowned out by the WOW WOW WOW of my eye signals.

Heh. I'm not kidding when I said it's probably the very best 35mm show I've seen in UHD thus far. Others like Argo or Pineapple Express had the benefit of a 4K DI so them looking luvverly in terms of film-like goodness doesn't come as a massive shock, but for a catalogue movie actually photochemically finished on film I've seen nothing like it thus far. ID4 and Crouching Tiger Hidden Bladder and Ghostbusters and Labyrinth are excellent examples in their own right but they're slightly hamstrung in purely objective terms by the heavy grain, whereas the Mummy is incredibly fine-grained. Oh, it's just lush beyond belief - and it came from Uni-frickin'-versal of all people! Hell, they even worked wonders on a very old transfer for Mummy Returns.

All three transfers are clear upgrades over their BD counterparts, but goddamn The Mummy looks fantastic.
