It's like how video games went 3D way too quickly and looked like ass for 5 years. Companies are always in a rush to catch the wave and do the new big thing, and they're often rewarded for it monetarily. It's only years later you realize they were way too quick on the draw (though not really, because it was successful).

Yeah, the experience wasn't there to match the tech (or the other way around, depending on the show) when CG went through that late '90s/early '00s boom period. But it really has settled down now and the astonishing VFX in stuff like Rogue One (I don't even mean the digi-humans, I mean the never-less-than-photo-real K2SO and the digital Star Destroyers built from 3D scans of the original models) is proof that the tech and the filmmaking minds behind it really are starting to mature IMO.

For the most part. Outside of some hinky shots here and there my only problem with CGI today is quantity. Too much stuff being done in computers because f**k it, it's easier.

To be fair, in order to break new ground one has to take risks and push the development of the tech.
If no one had jumped on the CGI bandwagon and made all that uncanny valley CGI 15 years ago then we probably wouldn't have all the excellent CGI quality that we have today.

Covers from Amazon Italy. As the titles are in English, I suspect these actually are the US covers.

Wonder why the box set isn't a retailer-exclusive here in the States, like Bourne's was.

It hasn't been officially announced yet so it's still a possibility.

Well reports say ONLY the boxed set is coming to the States. Doubt it will be retailer exclusive if that is indeed the case.

Well searching "Mummy 4K" on Amazon comes up with nothing so I didn't see that.

Right?! The fact Imhotep - literally the mummy - is nowhere to be seen is shocking. It's like even after almost ten years, they're still trying to convince us that Tomb is an equal entry in the series. Sigh.

Anyway, I hope there'll be a steelbook version of these! The individual Italian steelbooks look amazing.

Are we ignoring The Scorpion King, Universal?

It's infinitely more enjoyable than those shit sequels.

Default The Mummy/Mummy Returns are guilty pleasures for me

I remember how much fun I had watching the first one back in 1999, good memories when it comes to the first two films.

One thing though, that CGI of the Scorpion King at the end of the second one....yikes. Pretty bad. That won't bode well seeing it in a 4K version LOL.

One thing is for sure: I will most definitely wait for (user) reviews this time around, I'm not going the Bourne route again...

US cover up on Amazon. From the cover it seems like the title changed to The Mummy Ultimate Trilogy.
