It looks pretty great, I think I know what the "DNR" issue is, but I'm going to test it in Japan with an expert

I have a theory on the dubtitling of the other DVDs, but I'm going test it first
I kind of like the fact that the old Disney DVDs had both dubtitles and proper subtitles, is that the case with the new one?

Sweet deal!

Jeff, would you mind checking one more thing? The Disney R1 Ghibli DVDs branched the credits (original or English), triggered by your language selection. Does the Nausicaa BD do that (or at least allow you to watch the original unmolested credits as a seamless part of the feature in some way)?

It should still be the case, as it was a product of the larger Disney Ghibli distribution deal, by which Disney was not allowed to put their stinky scissors to a single frame of any of the movies. Who knows, though, if that deal has expired and they've moved on.

Jeff, you mentioned in a response to me that yes, there was either confirmation of some David Lynch stuff coming to Blu-ray or rumors. Would you please elaborate on what the 'yes' was referring to; which movies are coming out, is the Twin Peaks show coming out, and what time-frame they're looking at for releasing them?

PS: Other than Blue Velvet (I read the news on that).

Yes and no

The original credits are there, with small subtitle style overlays for the english credits I'm not sure if this was triggered by me choosing the "play movie" shortcut though, I only had time to put it in for a few minutes yesterday.

The no-cut deal is active as long as their contract with Disney remains

No The answer was deliberately vague

But that is Jeff's point. There are so many re-makes, re-boots, sequels, prequels where the name is used but this story does not belong with the franchise. And the name is used because it is hoped that people will say "wow, an other alien movie, let's go see it" and so will go and see it because of the name.

I used to like the original BSG but it was years ago and I never re-watched it after it aired so I don't remember what it was about. I also never watched the re-make. So maybe you have a valid point for that example, I have no idea. But I disagree with what you are saying. Yes every minute detail is not needed to be recreated (and the reality is it needs to be a different take or else it just looks creepy). But everything in the original and real sequels define the franchise, even tone and meaning. I don't think anyone would agree that Nightmare on Elm Street the musical with bright sunny dreams would really be part of the franchise even if it had Freddy Krueger and took place in the dreams of kids living on Elm street.

There is a reason Hollywood re-uses a name (be it re-make, re-boot or an other chapter in the story) they want to attract back the original fans that liked what came first. And so these original fans are the only ones that can say if the name fits what is created. Since they are the only ones that can judge what was important in the earlier instalments.

Not to pick on Mr. Cinema, but I have to ask:
At this point, how many Blu-ray releases have been released a second time on Blu-ray with a new transfer?

I can only think of a few: The Fifth Element, Gladiator, AvP.

Others?

What I am getting at is that in even in the presence of hue and cry, is it realistic that they are even going to happen anytime soon?

Memento is a new transfer.

Any update on The Music Man? Seems to be unavailable most everywhere still.

Jeff,

If you want something to play that is ridiculous and over the top, play Bulletstorm. Its about as satisfying and hilarious as any game I have played.

How come no love for the new Deus Ex game coming out? Seems like that would be your type of game.

I never played Deus Ex

I played the Bulletstorm demo, seemed like the gimmick would wear thin in an hour or tow. I'll rent it or grab it when it's under $20

The gimmick can get old, but you have to accept the type of game it is at the front end. If you play it as just a "fun" shooter w/o all the bells and whistles, it doesn't bother you too much. I'm hoping Homefront plays as good as it looks...

Thats the funny thing about it is that it doesn't get old. Its absolutely HILARIOUS to see all the crazy things you can do to the enemies.

Jeff,

Someone asked last month about The Rocketeer on blu-ray. Since then the SyFy channel has been playing it in HD. Is that any indication that Disney might put it out for its 20th anniversary this year?

Default PIP issues on shrek...or is it my player?

I have the dmp bd65pk, or something really close to that. I couldn't get any sound on the shrek pip. Is this a firmware issue? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Does this mean that none of my PIP commentaries will work? Is this a common problem?

Could it be that in your player setup you've selected to only output primary audio? If so secondary audio such as the sound for a PiP track wouldn't play. I only suggest this as my old Samsung player had a similar setup option.
