Penton-Man or paidgeek:

I just posted this in another thread regarding Mr. Stringer's interview - just wondering if my impression of him jives with yours and also if you can give any further insights on him (I personally admire him and his candor) - thxs

I have read numerous Stringer interviews over the years and IMO he is very much a straight shooter that speaks truthfully about how he feels even if sometimes it's not to his personal (or his company's) benefit.
A case in point - in one article regarding his initial difficulty in adjusting to Japanese culture, Stringer admitted that it would have been a good move perception-wise for him to maintain a residence in Japan but that he didn't really like living there and much preferred to stay in hotels there and only as long as necessary to conduct business - very honest, but probably didn't win him a lot of friends at Sony.

To me this interview is the same; instead of toeing the company line and proclaiming victory, he spoke very honestly about how he feels - that the HD war is a difficult one and that there's a stalemate at present. My respect for him actually increased after reading this interview - if only more executives can be speak so candidly, and not always be a propagandist for their company.

Penton, Paidgeek.

The numbers are 71:29 for this week. They will only get better as the year progresses. Will anything EVER be good enough for Warner to go blu? HD-DVDers DO NOT SPEND ON MOVIES. lol. It will always be that way as long as the name is associated with DVD.

There is an HDM conference this Nov in China. A lot of Chinese manufactures for HDM player will be there.

Hopefully time line will be "mentioned".

BTW, there is no factory in China could currently produce OPU for Bluray, but there are two with the help of NEC who could now produce OPU for HD DVD. They said the technical barrier for the previous is still too high for them currently.

It did not include the box or the PS3 packins

Using the HMR chart, the box sold 93,000 copies

Look at the timeline of DVD prices. They were $399 Christmas 98, and $325-$299 when I bought mine in May.

EDIT- in fact I'm depressed because coincidentally today is that day that deck is finally being retired. I got the Pioneer 400 upconverter today

WickyWoo - don't you think it would be in Sony's best interest to state that publicly then? I'm hoping they do at some point. I know people say that is how they read the original press release but it is a little vague and open to interpretation.

A slightly different kind of question for the insiders:

What kind of HT setups do you have in your homes? Dedicated theatre room, balls out "family room", or what?

Thanks

Wicky I've read where you've written this elsewhere - and it's not even that I doubt you - just that it would be nice to hear it confirmed by PaidGeek. In PR-land, it would be the norm to bundle the two together when making the sales announcement, which is why discretion is the better part of valor here IMO before believing the ideal scenario without first being 100% sure.

look at the hmr data in the sales thread. you can clearly see that there are two categories, one for the box and one for the movie individually

Insiders - all of Fox's new releases advertised in the current Home MEdia Magazine only mention the DVD, not the Blu-ray. This includes Sunshine as well as the new Kevin Bacon one.

Should anything be read into this?

Wow, that is a pretty solid number for a box set. Congrats to Sony on that one!! I was afraid that the price of the box might deter buyers but I guess that is not the case.

At it's SRP I'm sure it would, but when you have places like Best Buy promoting it so well and affordably, $20 a disc really, and with them being the big place for HD media right now, it was going to do pretty well.

I've noticed a lot of Fox new release titles in the next two months are not coming to Bluray.

Deck The Halls ($35 mill boxoffice), Amazing Grace ($21 mill boxoffice ), Waitress ($19 mill boxoffice), Namesake ($14 mill boxoffice), Once ($9 mill boxoffice), and Seeker ($9 mill boxoffice).....although Seeker I was just told got pushed back into 08 for legal issues. It concerns me a little to know how fox only will put out the big boxoffice title but not the smaller ones....specially when you have Universal and Paramount putting everything out (from Mr Bean to Hot Rod which obviously were just as bad as the movies listed above). I think it's important to have ALL their titles out for highdef if they want to end this war. Maybe they won't sale but people CAN RENT.....if people don't see available for rent it's one less incentive to go highdef IMO.

Sunshine is advertised, but not the Blu-ray version, and we know that's coming

Honestly I would say no, because those ads were all prepped weeks ago
