I actually found Stringer's unusual candor very refreshing; a far cary from the arrogant and premature proclamations of victory from others in the BDA that IMO turned off lots of people.

I have read numerous Stringer interviews over the years and IMO he is very much a straight shooter that speaks truthfully about how he feels even if sometimes it's not to his personal (or his company's) benefit.
A case in point - in one article regarding his initial difficulty in adjusting to Japanese culture, Stringer admitted that it would have been a good move perception-wise for him to maintain a residence in Japan but that he didn't really like living there and much preferred to stay in hotels there and only as long as necessary to conduct business - very honest, but probably didn't win him a lot of friends at Sony.

To me this interview is the same; instead of toeing the company line and proclaiming victory, he spoke very honestly about how he feels - that the HD war is a difficult one and that there's a stalemate at present. My respect for him actually increased after reading this interview - if only more executives can be speak so candidly, and not always be a propagandist for their company.
