as all ways, thanks for your participation.

I anxiously watched the bits today hoping to glimpse the "big" title announcements. Though I was pleased with 'ghostbusters", "MIB", "godzilla" and Starship troopers, I would have hoped for a HUGE announcement. Something along the lines of LOTR, Star Wars?

Glad to see that your 2/4/08 titles were not your bomb....

I would love for this week to be the week all the studios announce up coming titles. However, i think New Line and HBO would have thier own announcements for thier titles. I think Tues/Wed announcement will just related to WB movies. But we shall see. I am very excited.

Okay... deep breaths everyone. This isn't any kind of bomb... just a preview of some of what you can expect later in 2008 on DVD and Blu-ray. So you know... don't blow this thing up to be bigger than it is. I'm sure there will be cool title news, but let's not get expectations too high. Back in January 2007, Warner did something similar - they previewed the key titles planned for their 2007 slate. That's what this is, just for 2008. I should have all the details up on The Bits tomorrow night - probably fairly late Pacific time. Definitely they'll be up in time for Wednesday's early AM post.

Hey Bill,

Its well known that WB created the 3 week window for bluray so that they can encourage fence sitters to purchase the bluray version, but dont you think they also did that in the hope that many retailers wouldnt even bother carrying the HD-DVD version? Effectively making Warner BD exclusive already.

I know I'm dreaming when saying this, but LOTR trilogy on BD would pretty much make my year....

Yes you are dreaming. Bill has already stated that the LOTR trilogy will not be out this year. Oh, welcome to the site!

I don't know whether to jump for joy for a slate of (hopefully BLU-RAY ONLY) Warner releases to be announced, or have my stomach twist in a knot for fear of these being more of the same lossy audio releases...

Well, I do have a good feeling about this.

That release will likely coincide with The theatrical release of The Hobbit.

We don't know that WB's agenda is to motivate fence-sitters.

It may much more simply (and likely) be that they are giving themselves a safe 3-week window in case production complications necessitate inevitable delays: they are by policy going to put the effort into serving the BD community first prior to alocating resources to getting the HD DVD up and running.

In other words, WB's motivation for announcing the 3-week HD DVD delay window is probably more about protecting their interests to focus on BD delivery in a timely way than it is about intentionally delaying HD DVD product.

The first week is the most important week for any title. By waiting 3 weeks you essentially strip it of advertising support and any kind of push. It's so they can show they're fully behind Blu.

That's all

Out of that list, I'd definitely snag:

* Gremlins
* Wizard of Oz
* King Kong (1933)

The rest I'd have to consider. My wallet is small and I'm wanting to buy a new computer because this one's about 3 years old and it's starting to encounter gremlins in the form of slower booting, longer video encode times despite defrags/reinstalls, etc. ...

Hi Bill,

Just wanted to say I loved the update to the Rumor Mill and it's Blu-ray emphasis. Hope it's a sign of a future trend.

Hey Bill,

Will you be attending SXSW 2008 here in Austin next month?

P.S. Have you ever been here before to enjoy our award winning Alamo Drafthouse?
