Studios aren't too shy about double dipping, and this is definitely a title that is a high probability candidate for them to milk to death. The real wild card is Cameron himself... |

...and compassion, the meaning of friendship, etc. It contained interesting speculation, as well -- on ageing, and the nature of life and death. To me, Sci Fi is best when it is thoughtful. As Isaac Asimov said, "When Aristotle fails, try science fiction." I loved that some of the thought concerning life and death in Wrath of the Khan was conveyed visually and aurally, rather than through dialogue.

When I first saw the 2009 one, I didn't like it but thought it was better than Shatner's Folly (ST5) and most of the TNG films, going from memory. Then when the Blu-ray collections were released, I re-watched all the pre-2009 films and found I liked all of them better than the reboot.

Still, I hope True Lies and The Abyss make it out this year. I believe Cameron is supposed to be working on those now, or soon. |

![]() I suppose Shatner throwing the 3-boobed cat woman over his head into the "pool table" sealed the deal. |

I watched my disc twice--once with my friend's setup and once with my parents' setup. Annoying sync problem both times from chapter 15 through the rest of the movie.
Not sure about my friend's specs, but it was a Samsung player and a Mitsubishi projector. My parents' setup: Samsung 61" DLP old Onkyo receiver (no HDMI, not sure about the model #) Fat PS3 80 GB Video to the TV with HDMI Optical audio to the receiver, bitstream Are there any developments on how to remedy this? I have some running hypothesis, but I don't want to say anything publically about it until I'm sure. They're being peer reviewed over the weekend
Under the best case scenario, end of next weekish, and again, that's best case. Expect weeks, not days, if at all (covering my bases here) |

Indeed it does. But it didn't suggest that a viable alternative would have been to feature the TOS or TNG cast(s). I only meant to say that I personally don't have the same feelings for the new cast as I do for their predecessors. That's not to say that the franchise shouldn't continue with new actors, only that I am unlikely to favor any new efforts over Parts 1-10.

You also had 79 & 178 hours with each cast respectively on television before their debut films. |

Shatner's Folly got the Kirk/Spock/McCoy relationship right, and even though it went so awry, it was still trying to tackle a big idea like religion. It was bad Star Trek, but it was still Star Trek. Abrams' Folly felt like Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich had been turned loose on Gene Roddenberry's creation. Considering Abrams' writers wrote Bay's Transformers films and Abrams himself co-wrote a Bay film, that's not a surprise. |

I've seen over 3,000 films in my life, and even written reviews on an amateur basis, and haven't found critical opinion to be a reliable indicator that I'll like a film, and I'm sure that's true for everyone. Box office performance? Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich make films that often have huge box office results. |
