Can you even find Cat 1 cables anymore? All the ones I've seen are Cat 2.

I want to get the HDMI cables at monoprice, but the shorter length cables don't indicate Catagory 2, but right below those cables it has a group that does say Catagory 2. So that leaves be to believe the first group isn't a 2. The catagory 2 cables start at 4 feet, and the first group is in much shorter lengths which would result in me not having to do as much cable management (hint hint crackin!). I recently returned my stupid Monster cable HDMI, and bought two 3 foot cables from Walmart because I know I can return them within 90 days. Check this link, scroll down aways, and you'll see the two groups I'm talking about.

It DOES MATTER.

Cat 2 is the only way to go. Cat 1's don't guarantee full 1080p and uncompressed HD audio, even though some of them do.

ALL Cat 2's guarantee at least up to 1600p video and fully uncompressed audio!

keep in mind, yes, you can get a category 2 1.3 hdmi cable for 5-10$ online.

actually just did a live chat with a tech at monoprice, and he said there should be no issue with a cable not labeled as Catagory 2. Regardless, I'm really on the fence about this. I'll have to dig for some more websites maybe, because monoprice or bluejeanscable catagory 2 HDMI start out longer than I want. I'm just trying to get a 1 foot and a 3 foot.

Hey gang, I'm looking to get a few hdmi cables off of monoprice. Quick question, how important is the gauge of an hdmi cable? I'm not asking about in-wall gauge, that's self explanitory. I'm looking at the 6' or 10' lengths.

If anyone's interested, I have a couple spare white 15 ft. HDMI 1.3a cables available for $10 + shipping. I got them from monoprice but waited too long to return them. They're $25/ea from monoprice. PM if interested.

Call or email Blue Jeans, they should be more than willing to make whatever you want. Ask for the new BJC series F2 HDMI cable. They have done a lot of custom analog cables for me. HDMI might be a different story but worth an email none the less.

All wires? I know you're supposed to cross over power lines/cables at 90 degrees, but what about, say, component cables over HDMI cables? Or speaker wire over S-video? BTW, the back of my rack looks just like yours!

Default different "speed" HDMI

I have never bought into the whole monster cable thing, i obviously don't have hundreds of dollars for each and every cable. Anyway, the other day I saw these monster HDMI cables with their typical good, better, best rating. The "good" cable was rated at something like 2.23 gbps, better was 6.68, and the best was 10.2 gbps. Whats the deal with these ratings? Are they bogus like all of monsters other dazzling numerical ratings?

Right now I'm using a 30 dollar HDMI from wal-mart? Am I not getting the most of my PS3 and 1080p plasma?

On a side note, speaking of monster, I picked a set of these up (15ft) at circuit city the other day for $20 http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=2561

From what I've read here, an HDMI cable will either work or it wont.

The "best" Monster cable claims to transfer at 10.2 gbps. If that is gigabits, then 10.2 gbps = 1.28 gBps (gigaBYTES per second).

The "best" Monster cable would be transfering a completly full 50GB blu-ray disc in less than a minute. That sounds unnecessary to me.

As I said, if your Wal-Mart cable is working without problems, then you are getting the most out of your PS3.
