Cat 2 is the only way to go. Cat 1's don't guarantee full 1080p and uncompressed HD audio, even though some of them do. ALL Cat 2's guarantee at least up to 1600p video and fully uncompressed audio! keep in mind, yes, you can get a category 2 1.3 hdmi cable for 5-10$ online. |

actually just did a live chat with a tech at monoprice, and he said there should be no issue with a cable not labeled as Catagory 2. Regardless, I'm really on the fence about this. I'll have to dig for some more websites maybe, because monoprice or bluejeanscable catagory 2 HDMI start out longer than I want. I'm just trying to get a 1 foot and a 3 foot.

All wires? I know you're supposed to cross over power lines/cables at 90 degrees, but what about, say, component cables over HDMI cables? Or speaker wire over S-video? BTW, the back of my rack looks just like yours!

I have never bought into the whole monster cable thing, i obviously don't have hundreds of dollars for each and every cable. Anyway, the other day I saw these monster HDMI cables with their typical good, better, best rating. The "good" cable was rated at something like 2.23 gbps, better was 6.68, and the best was 10.2 gbps. Whats the deal with these ratings? Are they bogus like all of monsters other dazzling numerical ratings?
Right now I'm using a 30 dollar HDMI from wal-mart? Am I not getting the most of my PS3 and 1080p plasma? |

On a side note, speaking of monster, I picked a set of these up (15ft) at circuit city the other day for $20

From what I've read here, an HDMI cable will either work or it wont.
The "best" Monster cable claims to transfer at 10.2 gbps. If that is gigabits, then 10.2 gbps = 1.28 gBps (gigaBYTES per second). The "best" Monster cable would be transfering a completly full 50GB blu-ray disc in less than a minute. That sounds unnecessary to me. As I said, if your Wal-Mart cable is working without problems, then you are getting the most out of your PS3. |
