I live in Bangkok Thailand & have done for almost 2 years. In all the stalls you can find dodgy "Blu-rays" for sale. Out here EVERYONE is on the fiddle. Thailand has the most corrupt politicians & generals (self serving to a point where even George Dubya seems like man of the year) Bent policemen (you can see "shakedowns" any night esp in Khao Sarn Rd) So everyone thinks "well if its ok for them its ok for me & i want a bit of the pie". Its everywhere & so blatant. An example: a security guard makes 100 baht a night (bout $3) so if he can help make a couple hundred spurious dvd/bds a night he'll boost his earnings right up. A few months ago i was purchasing a BD (genuine Recue Dawn me thinks) and got chatting to a shop owner who was also buying a BD, he told me where his shop was and later i visited it only to find row upon row of moody BD's & HD-DVD's. Think of a movie you wanna see on BD it was there, Saving Private Ryan, E.T, Jurassic Park, King Kong all in those SD sized "BD" cases. So i think i found your source or at least on of them. He puts BD trailers from the genuine BD movie he bought , then a normal dvd as the feature. Then some poor sucka (esp Farang) gets duped into buying them. As the man said in Snatch pull ur pants down, spread ur cheeks, whip out the butter & prepare for penetration.

I was shopping in MBK, a very large mall in Siam Square, Central Bangkok yesterday and my g/f and I passed a shop that was actually named BLU-RAY and it was full floor to ceiling with PIRATED Blu-rays. These were being sold openly in full view of the local filth oops I mean police. These were in actual Blu-ray boxes with cellophane wrapping. What made my g/f suspicious was Blu-rays of LOTR, The KINGDOM, STARWARS Episodes 1-6. Is there an actual site where I can report these ******s or do the MPAA have no jurisdiction in Thailand? I absolutely despise bootlegs and would not let one within a hundred yards of my system. I can tell you something tho, the biggest customers are westerners, especially Americans and Brits. So some educating needs to be done @ home if we are to eradicate this scourge on home entertainment. I for one am counting the days till i get out of this corrupt, dishonest, bigotted, rat infested shitehole.

Unfortunately, the local officials in Thailand are well aware of the situation. The kicker is that they don't care. And "No", the MPAA and our federal enforcement agencies have no jurisdiction there. It's the same way in other countries in the world. My wife is from Bogota, Colombia. When we go down there, we usually make a stop at a place called San Andresito. It is full of pirated movies and CDs, major lable clothing rip-offs, and anything else you could imagine. Occasionally, in order to appease the US with whom they partner on certain things, there might be a "raid" (if you want to call it that) to get rid of some of those things, but it mainly only interrupts business for half a day.

Funnily enough, Colombia actually films some of there own movies (some of which are pretty good), but you will not find one single pirated Colombian made/produced movie down there. Pirating their own movies is not tolerated, so their hypocricy goes a long way. I am curious as to whether you will find pirated "Thailand" produced movies in Thailand? So as along as there is the demand and the government continues to collect taxes on it, other countries will probably NEVER stop allowing that practice.

On a side note, I really, really, really, really want The Kingdom on Blu-Ray ...badly.

That's how you can measure whether a country practices bad enforcement, or merely conveniently selective enforcement of their copyright laws.

Ultimately, why should any of us respect their intellectual property rights if they show such absolute contempt for ours?

I guess it only a matter of time before one of these guys are executed for failing to provide a high enough quality counterfeit product.

The Kingdom was such a good movie IMO. Too bad it is only available in HD DVD and DVD right now.
