Default router disconnect using wireless

Ok so i have a small problem and cant seem to figure it out

i have a linksys wirelss G router.
I have it setup for mac filtering
otherwise nothing else on security

Whenever my ps3 connects to the net and is alive for like 5 seconds the entire internet/router goes down. all computers in the house lose connection wired or wireless. including the ps3. its like its crashing the router and i have no freakin clue why.

Anyone run into a similar problem and/or otherwise know a solution?

Have you checked that the router has the latest firmware release? Searched google for others experiencing the same incompatibility?

Disable Media Sharing on your ps3, or get a 3rd party firmware for the linksys router.

Mine works to get online but sometimes it will boot me completely off the system after going online or playing a game and I have no choice to reset. I haven't had it reset the router though, just the PS3. I also use a Linksys wireless router. Mine has B/G and "speed boost" (whatever the hell that is). It seems like I have to reset my router about once a week though. Maybe it's Linksys????? I don't know. Sorry, just thought I would commiserate with you.

We used to have the same kinds of conflicts between our windows and Apple system..whenever the Mac laptop would connect I would get whacked. When we added the PS3 the same kind of thing would happen randomly.

Replaced our Linksys it with an apple basestation and problem disappeared all around..our conclusion ..Linksys sucks.

I have been having problems with my router since we've gotten it, I had this router that yahoo gave us and it worked perfectly but that one died... I have no idea what brand this new one is tho it just says at&t on it, I have no idea what I should do to it, only game I can play online is Resistance but it lags really badly, I get messeges from random people talking crap because of it, haha

My wireless Linksys WRT54G V8 does the same thing. I tried a firmware update (which for some reason tweeked my modem settings - don't get me started) and it still does the same thing. Boo!

The WRT54G is the most common one to have this ps3 issue since its a really popular router.

I have the v8 one as well, what I do is disable upnp in the administration page when I intend to stream. If im running a torrent program I re-disable media sharing. So far only temp fix I have been able to figure out.

Disable the media server on the PS3, makes a big difference, I have a Linksys WRT54G, and since doing that it has not dropped out at all. Try using WPA encryption instead of MAC address filtering.

You should not have to disable the media server to get this working.
Don't settle for less features and compromising, just fix it right the first time around.

I think mine is the WRT54G/B. Does the same thing. When I go online with the PS3, our PC gets kicked offline. Reconnects its self seconds later.

This Linksys simply does not work correctly with the PS3. It is all over Linksys forums and I am close to ditching it. If you want your PSN stuff to work correctly you have to disable the Media Server. If you want your Media Server to work you have to be signed out of PSN.. I have tried everything.

Disable media server, it will fix the issue.

Unless you are using that feature, I don't see why not. Otherwise you will have to look into getting a different brand router, try Netgear for a cheap one, that is still fairly good.

Thanks for the help guys, however, I think I'll start looking around for a replacement.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for an affordable, dependable wireless router that works with the PS3, Wii, and desktop?
Thanks tons!

As stated above the solution in this thread works perfectly, with no problems at all.

Why ask questions if you won't try out the answers?
