I don't get it, though. We have been waiting years for a HD release and now one is coming and people want it day 1, even though there's hundreds of pages of people complaining about something that they don't like about the release.

It's a 35 year old movie. It will be available in 1 month, 1 year and who knows when.
I get the term FOMO now, but it doesn't apply to this title
Yea, but it’s not yet released in those other territories is it? The US is the only territory that actually got a release, so there was always going to be a shortage initially.

Not so many complaints for The Abyss specifically. Most of the negative attention has been on Aliens and True Lies. This one was a safe pre-order after seeing the 4k streaming option.

In respect of the physical release, the other territories don't get them until the end of April, so there will be a good number of people eager to to import. U.S. release also has the bonus of no ratings logos and digital copies, which also make them more desirable.

Add to that a reoccurring theme of supply issues with recent releases like The Raid, Columbia Classics V4 and others, so it's easy to see why people are getting a bit twitchy. But yeah, people need to relax a bit.

Congrats to those who actually received their pre-orders. Mine are scheduled to arrive next week, but I'm expecting more delays. Luckily I do have four other movies arriving today (Possessor, Green Room, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dragonslayer), so I suppose that should tide me over for awhile...

He still is. But apparently a lot of people want to experience the Antichrist's grainless, AI-ridden produce with their own eyes.

Zero movement on my diabolikdvd order. I don’t mind waiting so long as I get them and their slipcovers. Wish I could just go to Best Buy to get them but ya know.

If you pay with PayPal they take payment immediately otherwise they charge when they start to process your order.

If it takes time, so be it. I can do other things in my life besides have a copy of a movie in my hands. I have lots of OTHER movies to watch, shows to see, and stuff to do in my life.
Even if it took another 4 months, I wouldn't care.

This will be my plan going forward. I don't understand why they can't just try the card a second time or ask for a new payment method. Instead they just cancel the order.

All three are getting released worldwide in April. If you can't wait that one more month then so be it.

Why are supply line excuses still being used? Is it only affecting physical media? Lol. I rarely even hear the term supply line anymore.

100% agree with your last statement! One of the attributes of the original special edition laserdisc box set that garnered so much praise on its release, was the amazing "clarity" of the THX approved letterboxed image. Now, the tweaked-to-hell, non-anamorphic DVD, that's a different story. IMO, it paled by comparison. If that DVD is your only reference, you can't fairly compare it to the new 4K. My biggest concern with the 4K UHD was what those larger SFX-laden scenes (that Cameron composited specifically for the extended laserdisc edition) would look like. Even on LD, I felt some could be a tad suspect. However, with the new 4K, if I didn't know precisely what to look for, much of it would pass right by. Is it perfect? No. But, aside from a theatrical screening, and considering how these scenes were produced, I'm hard-pressed to see how they could be improved upon. As always, YMMV.

A person who works at Walmart has stated on the other threads that the Cameron titles do not have a spot on their shelves and don't show any in stock.

This hurts SO much. T2 getting beat up on 4k is why we never got Terminator 1 in 4k. We have waited SO long for Abyss and Aliens and the reviews are saying Abyss looks the best, but it is barely a 4/5 starts, True Lies is 3/5, so I am really concerned for Aliens. This sucks so much.

I sympathise with 'purists' (?) who prefer a grainy filmic look warts and all, but I can also appreciate that, in all honesty, no film ever looked 100% theatrical on VHS or DVD or Blu-ray. There is always resolution or colour grading or contrast issues, nevermind vagaries of whatever CRT or panel a film is being watched on, or personal settings of such or calibration thereof. It's a thorny debate. My 4K of Blade Runner probably looks very different to how it looked back in 1982 in my town's fleapit cinema of the time. I'm ok with that and as long as The Abyss looks better than my old non-anamorphic DVD then I'll be happy. It may not be everyone's idea of perfect, but it's on disc, in 4K, so I'm pretty ecstatic, frankly.
With 4K though, it IS a means to capture and present a film print presentation experience. The other formats were utterly inadequate for this (closest previous one was BD, with resolution at least being closer to real film print, but with processing for the limitations and marketing of 1080p becoming too often the norm).

I would fervently hope a 4K disc would NOT look like the print that, as you say, your fleapit cinema projected, because I take from your statement they didn't care/got whatever they could get. So sloppy projection, and whatever well-worn/well-used print they could get.

So a well done 4K disc could (should) represent watching an ideally projected and new (not worn by excessive use) print. On top of that, we get scans of the negative in a of 4K releases (with varying degrees of restoration, depending on need of such). If you've ever seen a projection of the negative (probably not, I have seen it before), or even a newly struck theater print (possibly, if it was very early in the release, and the first theater to get said print, it's hyper clean, in fact shockingly clean if you're used to mainly worn/well used prints.

I've waited years to see this again as I could no longer stand to watch my DVD so I don't mind waiting a few more weeks.

Amazon not being able to get movies to me anywhere near release date lately is a much more worrying sign than Best Buy choosing to focus on phones and appliances, IMO.

I suppose we Brits importing The Abyss (because we ain't getting it at all here) haven't helped matters regards availability Stateside (a repeat of 1982 Conan 4K, which has similar supply issues as it was initially a limited edition). On behalf of my fellow importing Brits, my apologies.

And pull your fingers out, Disney. Get that disc manufacturer working overtime!

They said recently that Sony was taking over for Disney for manufacturing blus/4ks. When does that start?
