Yesss! Just today I received my order from WowHD, as others reported without a shipping notification or tracking information, so it was a complete surprise. Can't wait to check it out!!!

Amazing PQ and Atmos sound in my opinion loved it having seen The Abyss many times but not in several years since DVD.

However had like some others have mentioned several issues with the picture freezing and distorting. Cant remember the timestamp however
1. Was as Lindsey gets off the chpper in the early minutes. Doesnt freeze but there is pixilling and heavy distortion on the image for afew seconds, then continues to run fine until
2. The climax of the figh]t between Bud and Coffey, Coffey gets punched and then makes for the submersible. At that point the disc completly freezes in a pixalated state, my 820 panasonic player grinds for afew seonds trying to sort and then skips to the start of the next chapter. Then carries on fine until
3. Lindsey and Bud trapped in the wrecked sub, runs fine until Bud goes to put his helmet on and then same as 2 above, disc freezes and after few seconds jumps to start of next chapter

After that no more issues till the end of the film .This was the special edition but after i checked the TE and does exactly same thing. Checked the disc and there is one small but noticable scratch, otherwise disc is clean.
Very sad, i now face living with it or return and replacement to wowhd in the US urggghhhhhhh
One spot only for me: 29-29 1/2 minutes. Oppo 203. It was like it went into 'slo-mo', audio kind of garbled and slight pixilling. Lasted a couple of seconds.

Or the DTS-HD MA 5.1 from the BD if you have the ability to mux the two together. That's going to by my go-to.

So is this disc defective? Lots of people have said they have had issues so is it authoring problems or problems related to disc scratches?

The streaming copy of the SE on Vudu is Dolby Vision and 5.1 so that's an option for those without the skills or equipment required.

Nice to see discussion slowly turning away from anti-Cameron vitriol and hatred to subtle appreciation and enthusiasm for what is the biggest release of the past 25 years.

Hello,

Firstly if you have a light lint cloth see if you can wipe the scratch away, it may be a light mark that looks like a scratch. If not and it's lightly deep please pick this up. I've repaired so many discs with this solution. An excellent product. It will fill the mark with an additional layer. Put one drop on the mark and then wipe the whole disc with the soft cloth provided from the centre to the edge all the way around the disc. It's a patient job. You will be wiping the disc until the solution has completely been wiped and has left a fine layer.

Shame about the art. Why can't studios just use the iconic poster art.

"I heard"... that these sound issues, as well as some of the video tweaks... will be fixed in the upcoming 8K release, sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2049. 🤣

Got this title last Friday &, for those who are wondering about playback issues, I am happy to report that every feature ran flawlessly on all my setups, even the entry-level Sony machine I have as my garage unit.

Is there something wrong with the Atmos track? What have I missed?

So that one shot when The Abyss rose and the ship is on The Abyss, why does it look like a 480p Upscale, has it always looked like that?

It may be that the source shot was from somewhat incomplete effects footage. ILM and some of the other effects companies were running behind schedule for when the movie was contracted to be released in theaters.

That's why most of the SE footage wasn't in the theatrical release in the first place.

Please forgive me for my spreading of lies and misinformation. I finally had the idea to run a stereo downmix of the 5.1 on the Blu-ray and compare it to the 2.0 on the 4K, and it would appear that the 2.0 on the 4K is in fact a downmix of the 5.1 on the BD. However - H O W E V E R - the 5.1 on the Blu-ray is actually 4.1, with duplicated mono surrounds, as I pointed out further up thread, so as long as they encoded it as Dolby Surround, it should be a fair approximation of the original mix. (minus the noise reduction and EQ and brickwall limiting and yadayadayada) Unfortunately I have no idea how to tell that. I don't know how to decode a Dolby Surround track on a computer.

I got my copy in the UK. I bought it for the Blu-ray as I don't have a 4K TV. Just watched the Special Edition and that's definitely an amazing experience. It just looks incredible! Now shoot me...

Just received my Walmart delivery, only 6 days after placing the order. The 4K disc was loose in the case which was not pleasant. You would think that they would make them more secure. Very sloppy work. I checked the disc and did not see any scratches or marks so hopefully, all is OK. Will check it later.

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order that I made on February 2 that still has not posted a delivery date. Amazon messed up with this one.
