Their comment is quite common, fundamentally misunderstanding dynamic range and film. The issue is posting nonsense as facts and letting your followers lap it up. |

Tho FWIW I've stated the failings of these releases, I'm just not horrified by them from beginning to end. And this one still looks great and is easily the bestest one out of all four. |

Good news - bad news - great news thoughts.
Good news: Finally received my Amazon pre-order yesterday. Watched last night. Can't believe I made it to 74 without ever having seen this! Great film and spectacular presentation! Bad news: Had same problems others have reported - Movie stopped/pixelated twice, paused, then restarted after losing 5-6 seconds. Multiple wipe downs did not help. Great news - This morning I washed the disc. Warm water, Dawn detergent, careful cleaning from center out, then RINSE, RINSE, RINSE! Can't emphasize RINSING enough! And - SUCCESS!!! Played through first problem spot just fine (couldn't remember where second was but not worried). I'm glad to have won the battle, but DAMN IT! We should NOT have to deal with this crap at this point in the 21st century! The disc was spotless: no scratches or smudges, yet it was faulty. Good luck to the rest of you, it's worth the effort. ![]() |

I would be very concerned about getting a disc wet and rinsing it. A microfiber cloth that is good at lifting oils off a lens should be all that's needed. Use your warm moist breath and breathe on it as you're cleaning if necessary, like with glasses.
I agree though that the off-gassing from cases these days is not helping UHDs, as that residue can cause playback issues and possibly gum up the player. Glad to hear you got the disc working though. Just be careful with that method. |

Get ready to laugh.
I went back to Target today, and asked for The Abyss (all three are becoming easier to find now, but I still don’t have them), and was told that it wasn’t in the store. Just for my entertainment, I asked about the backlog from a few weeks ago. First he denied it existed, but when I quoted the girl who told me about it, he asked “How did you hear that?” I played dumb and said I knew about it, to which he instantly replied “No, who told you about that?” I lied and said an employee at a different store, to which he responded with what might be the most lies ever packed into one sentence at once: “No, that was another movie that was back a hundred thousand copies, those three weren’t affected.” 1. I mentioned one title, he knew it was all three. 2. Aside from these three, name one other disc where there were a hundred thousand people waiting for it. 3. He denied the backlog, then confirmed the backlog all in ten seconds. 4. We still haven’t answered the question that started this mess: how exactly did Target sell hundreds of thousands of copies of these three movies that they didn’t have? Business as usual I guess. On a lighter note, they had 4Ks of Barbie and Titanic (so far the only JC 4K that still looks like film), but I still left empty handed. |

What does matter, however, is what you wipe it with. You should always be using a microfiber cloth, but the water does 0 damage. |

If PCBs can go through the dishwasher with no ill effects an optical disc can go in water and just from my own experience I've done both. But, the one exception I can think of is old CDs that were pressed by Nimbus in UK, I've had several people warn me to never get these wet so I haven't.

It's The Abyss. The 4k disc has no problem being submerged, and to a fairly significant depth even.
