Still waiting for my copy to arrive from Amazon, despite ordering it the week it was released. After the initial delay, my new time frame was 4/17 - 4/30, which has now just been updated to 4/30.
It's been a while since I've had an issue with a new release like this. I know I shouldn't complain and be happy we're finally getting a physical release on blu-ray of this film, but I'd really like to know why getting a new release out on time is such an issue in 2024. |

I'd be curious to see actual worldwide sales figures! Percentages of sales were published on this website, as they're always published weekly, but what numbers this could represent? Is this release setting new records, or only a moderate sales peak?

This is where I see the big problem, the good sales figures will encourage Disney and James Cameron to have done everything right here.
Maximum profit with minimum effort. Why do new scans, in future they'll just run an AI over it. The impression arises that buyers can be satisfied with any garbage and that everyone wants a smooth video look. |

The problem is that we live in a time where many people are not interested in facts or facts are twisted into opinions. Objective becomes subjective and everything is distorted until the desired result emerges. See the review on this page or the statements by Bill Hunt and Robert Harris.

Some of it is new, remember the shitstorm after Gladiator and the Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition. Sure, there were buyers back then who thought the look was great or not so bad, but somehow it was different.

I think part of the issue with this particular release is that many Brits have imported it from the US as there is no release here. This created higher demand than expected. Similar stock issues don’t appear to be evident with Aliens.

I think in this scenario, specifically with The Abyss and True Lies, these two are probably the most anticipated releases on physical media in sometime, due to their absence on BD, granted, True Lies got a release on BD eventually, but they weren't mainstream releases, especially to the masses, unless one was to go digging for them and visit forums such as this.
The difference here, is also that JC has had ultimate control over these releases, and he's never going to back down and admit that he has fudged these up. The only way we would see these in their untouched, grainy glory, would be if an indie label picked these up. Parallel universes, don't you just love'm! ![]() Obviously the numbers don't lie, and if the numbers are good, then people are going to take notice, and possibly follow the same path that these releases took, and what JC did them with. This is what is worrying to the enthusiasts. I just hope that this doesn't become the norm for selling/providing content, especially on UHD BD, for big hitters. Looking at you Se7en ![]() My two cent, I'm keeping my BD releases of Titanic, Aliens and my Spanish BD release of True Lies, and thankfully, The Abyss is the lesser of the fudge ups on offer, and without it having a BD release, I've ordered The Abyss on UHD, but I don't agree with what has been done to these releases. I'm staying away from the Avatar releases altogether, and sticking with the original release of Avatar on BD. |

Disney underestimated a lot of things...hopefully this'll be an eye opener for them and solidifies the notion that, yes, physical media is very much still viable and can make them money. Hard to believe people are still waiting for their orders, though. I mean, it's been over a month since the street date. This is nuts.

No, it won’t port to iTunes since the code redeems the Theatrical cut. Even though the iTunes listing was originally the TC, it was later changed to the Special Edition before the disc came out. So, that listing is the Special Edition and is linked the SE listing in MA now.
