I think it's safe to say this is my most anticipated physical media release of all time. Been waiting more than 2 freaking decades for an upgrade to that dreadful DVD. At the time, DVD producers were overflowing with creativity so the overall release was fun (cool menus and lots of great extras) but, boy, the disc is just unwatchable today. The film is completely mesmerizing from start to finish. So many great moments and I trust everything will look fantastic in 4K. Simply cannot wait. If Disney decides to exit physical media tomorrow, I wouldn't care as long as they get these 3 Cameron films released first.

The Abyss UHD better look exactly like the VHS tape my Auntie rented for me in December 1992. I remember exactly how all the shades of blue displayed on the TV tuned to the VCR through the coaxial cable.

If it doesn't look exactly the same, I will fly to New Zealand and find where James Cameron lives and leave a bag of flaming dog shit at his front door.

I could probably have that arranged for you for a lower price than the cost of travel to here and back.

I thought the discussion took a positive turn, yeah. It was nice that we (not just you and me, other folks too) could discuss our points of view re: things like pixel peeping without it turning into the usual war of words.

Joking aside, I actually do miss my dollar theater. It definitely wasn't the Dolby Cinema but it was nice for things I wouldn't pay a premium to see.

How about no more guessing what a transfer might be and waiting until you see it to actually discuss what it turned out to be. Simple, right? apparently not.

I just thought the proof that the scan was bad to begin with was enough to stop the conversation, but, y'know

Well, you and Riddhi having a meltdown wasn't really what I was referring to , it was more the deployment of the overarching "why can't you just watch the movie!" trope which ended up with us actually sharing our respective viewpoints rather than just shouting over top of each other.

I wouldn't own 1111 UHDs if I was after perfektion every time as quite a few fall short of that mark (not that I'm constantly looking for perfick which is what the users of such a remark don't realise, I'm not naive enough to expect it - I just want competence and consistency and even those qualities are getting harder and harder to come by lately), but people these days don't seem to grasp how things can be critiqued but still enjoyed, they're so quick to wheel out the same old defence force slogans. I wish I'd had "what movie have YOU shot?" on my bingo card tho as someone literally just used that in the Titanic thread

GOD, NO! I treasure Disney's animated films more than anything, they are landmarks and so gorgeous! A world where the likes of Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi and Sleeping Beauty don't get UHDs is horrible! These films would look so gorgeous in UHD! These films are insanely stunning artistic achievements, jaw-dropping!

If Disney had to choose between releasing their classic animated features in UHD and James Cameron's films, I will choose the former without a second thought.

"Anyone's ship yet?"
"Mine arrived without a slip. I'm in shambles."
"Streaming bitrates are not representative of the final disc encode."
"Color timing is off. I saw this in theaters in 1981, and that's not at all what I remember seeing."
"The cover art is atrocious."
"We don't know how they converted the screencaps from HDR to SDR."

Literally three and a half years after release: "Thinking of ordering this from Amazon. Do you think I'll get a slip?"

I feel as rigorous as your reviews are, in the UHD era, you don't get enough credit for mostly making peace with the presentation unless it's a true abomination.

Yes I do. "Hard Times" with Charles Bronson had medium grain in the day scenes and a heavy to very heavy grain for the night scenes back in '76. I remember commenting to my girlfriend on just that fact and also how I thought the movie seemed to have a bit too much of an orange push as well. Don't remember that anything about the movie, but the grain structure and color timing I remember like it was yesterday. I swear on my DGA card!

I likes what I likes, don't likes what I don't likes, explaining what I can using industry publications like AC, but that doesn't mean there isn't any room inbetween. There are very few UHDs that I'd reject outright as most usually have some sort of redeeming feature, especially when compared to increasingly creaky Blu-ray presentations, although there are some that I can't abide.
