I'll likely be dismissed as knowing nothing by some members, but that is my current setup and love it. I've tried it both ways, and deep color on with a 10 bit panel is great in my opinion.

Deep Color on the Samsung must be left off. It does a wonky 12 bit conversion of the 10 bit signal that can introduce negative video anomalies into the chain... like increased banding.

Why 12 bits? It's a bit silly Samsung outputing 12 bit instead of 10, I don't think there are consumer 12 bit panels or projectors.
The Deep Color menu says "Auto" so the HDMI handshake between the Samsung player and T.V. set should tell Samsung player what bit depth video signal should output. I'll do some testing this evening.

That is how I found out that House of Cards season 1 is not in 4K UHD. It was a very useful tool.

What kind of internet speed do you need to stream 4k?

It's already been bench tested by Stacy Spears, a video pro. Leave D.C. off. It keeps the signal at the proper, native 10 bit pixel depth.

Standard video mode at all 0's is also one of the best settings for this particular player. This is only accessible during disc playback.

And even 150 Mbps isn't always enough due to traffic bottlenecks and high peak times.

Very true, sometimes occasionally 4K YouTube drops to Quad HD and then ramps back up to 4K UHD

As I said my 4K Philips T.V. set has a 10 bit panel but not HDR. Even not been HDR the Samsung is feeding 10 bit video to my T.V.?
I tested the player with Deep Color set to Auto and I see no banding, one way to spot banding is the 20th Century Fox opening/fanfare, the sky shows banding if either the player or T.V. are badly set up. Also the sunset on The Martian show severe banding if badly set up. Nothing of this happens when the Samsung player Deep Color set to Auto on my Philips 4K set with a 10 bit display.

A couple more questions

I could not find BD-Wise setting for my Samsung TV. Are you sure all newish Samsung TVs have it? (my tv is 65" JU7000 )

Also and as far as I know, both my TV and receiver are hdcp 2.2 compliant. Are your suggestions applicable in my case as well? (I have read somewhere in this thread the recommended settings differ depending on what is hdcp 2.2 compliant)

That's good, but still leave it off anyway. I believe when HDR is being stripped away on the Samsung, you're getting a truncated 8 bit signal. HDR to SDR conversion is still not an elegant process.

Yours may be a model that got rid of BD-Wise. However, it's best to turn it off in case something is still happening between Samsung devices behind the scenes anyway. You don't want things to go into auto pilot when you least expect it.

What receiver model do you have, again?

Is it confirmed that you get 10bit video even if you are playing UHD discs with this player a 1080P display?
i know colors will be downgraded to rec709 and downscaled but will the 10bit video remain?

why i ask is because 10bit video on an display that has 10bit panel (even if its not HDR) really gets a benefit from it with a sharper picture with better/more colors compared to todays 8bit movies.

Sorry for being not more specific. My receiver is Yamaha RX-V681, that makes both both my receiver and TV 2.2 compliant. In this case, would all your suggestions (in the previous posts) be applicable?

Yes. Just be sure you plug the HDMI cable into one of the HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI ports on the Yamaha. Only three out of the six meet the full specs.

Turn off all video processing and GUI modes in the receiver to keep the video signal in its purest form. You should still get the info screen, just not overlaid on the video signal.

A lot of streaming content is in 4K@60, like 4K YouTube
