Alien Prequel NOT Called Paradise; Casting Rumors False

Yesterday, it looked as if we were getting a huge amount of info on Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel. Vulture reported that the film was called “Paradise”, and that Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) were being offered roles. But last night, Chris Petrikin, 20th Century Fox’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, took to the Twitter machine to make some clarifications. He first stated that the title is not “Paradise”. Presumably, “Paradise” could just be an alias for the production. It did seem odd that Fox would make an Alien movie and not put the word “Alien” in the title.

In other clarification news, The Playlist reports that according to a source who’s close to the production, the casting rumors regarding Fassbender and Yeoh are “just plain wrong.” Hit the jump for more rumor control on the Alien prequel.

Petrikin also dispatched the long-held rumor that Scott was actually making two prequels back-to-back. The notion that Scott would be directing two Alien movies came from the director himself while he was doing press for Robin Hood. Here’s the transcript of what he said:

Quote:
You’re developing the Alien prequel, are you developing it as a series of films or a longer storyline?

RIDLEY SCOTT: It’ll be two. It’ll be prequel one and two. Then Alien 1.

Are you going to shoot the prequels together or shoot them separately?

SCOTT: At the moment I’m just trying to get the first one out.
Source

I think we're going to get a rumor and then a report debunking it the next day for the next few months...at least that seems to be the pattern

lol jk. I agree completely, but wasn't Ripley the first strong female lead in a movie anyway? One that didn't buckle under a man atleast.

Looking forward to some concrete news from either Scott or Fox. I can't believe Fox isn't letting Scott do what he wants, especially since Warner has given Nolan pretty much carte blanche on his last few movies and it paid off for them. Didn't Fox learn their lesson with Alien 3?

If there's gonna be a prequel, then why did most of us buy the anthology?

More EPIC News! Red Epic Cameras To Be Used For Ridley Scott's ALIEN Prequels!

Wow. The RED EPIC digital camera has come a long way in the past couple of months! How is this for a lineup of blockbuster movies that will be utilizing the camera:

- THE HOBBIT - Peter Jackson
- SPIDER-MAN - Marc Webb

And now...

- ALIEN PREQUELS - Ridley Scott!

According to Jim Jannard, founder of RED, this is what cinematographer Dariusz Wolski (ON STRANGER TIDES, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, EAGLE EYE, CRIMSON TIDE) said recently:

"In my opinion, the new Red Epic camera is about to revolutionize all spectrums of the film industry. I am going to use Epics in my new project directed by Ridley Scott. I am amazed with the quality of the image and the fact that you can shoot 5k at 120fps without compromising resolution, and most of all the size of the camera. Combined with the Element Technica Atom 3d rig, we will be able to shoot a 3d movie with the flexibility of a conventional cinema camera. I don't see anything that comes close to it at the moment. I can't even imagine the potential Epic will have on the big blockbuster industry as well as independent cinema."

That, my friends, is a resounding endorsement! We are seeing another mini revolution taking place here within the 3D industry - RED EPICS!! More when I get it... Thanks Mark!

Jackson's still moving forward with The Hobbit? Dang, I thought he'd given up on it!

That Jannard guy's statement sounds more like a plug though than his opinion.

Thanks for the update though, Duffy.

5k resolution AND 120fps capability? That sounds abit like a fairytale. If those numbers are true, then it must be a moviemakers dream.I wonder how close 5k comes to 70mm in quality?

PS:Looked at red's homepage (of sorts) and there the red one resolution claim is 5120x2700.Thought 5k stood for vertical lines.Still it probably looks stunning.

H.R. Giger for Alien Prequel?

Alien Prequel News | Posted by Darkness on 18 Dec 2010 18:49 GMT

This is definitely good news if it’s true. H.R. Giger’s wife, Carmen Scheifele, has said the Swiss surrealist painter is working on the Alien Prequel. You can check out the video interview with his wife here and another report about it here. It’s in German though.-

Ihr Mann sei “on board”, also dabei, sagte Scheifele. Es werde sicher einen 3D-Film geben, wahrscheinlich aber zwei. Geplant sei ein Prequel, das die Geschichte vor dem ersten Alien-Film erzählt.

Basically, she says that Giger is on-board for the prequel. It will be a 3D film – there might be two and that it takes place before the first film. H.R. Giger of course created the Alien creature as well as various set pieces in the original Alien including the Space Jockey and its spacecraft. Thanks to Undel for the news.

Oh yeah that sounds amazing too, but I was talking about H.R. Giger. He and Ridley teaming up again just sounds too good to be true.

If Giger is part of this project, then this is great news. Now if Fox can just let these guys make a film without riding their asses every second, then this entire project could be very promising!!!!!

They're already riding Ridley's ass over the budget. Looks like they're going to make trouble this time around as well.

Charlize Theron now being courted for Alien prequel?:

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment...ps_out_of.html

I think she's a good actress and wouldn't mind at all seeing her as the lead in this movie.

"...All has since been smoothed over with Eastwood, but it’s also opened the door for 20th Century Fox. The studio is hoping the newly available Theron can solve one of its more pressing problems: casting its Alien prequel.

Director Ridley Scott is adamant that the little-known Scandinavian actress Noomi Rapace — best known, to the extent that she’s known at all, for playing Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish-language Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy — get the part of the Alien prequel’s main character, Elizabeth Shaw. Scott has also been pushing to launch a far more multicultural crew into space, and last month, Vulture reported that the director hoped to give the part of Vickers — a fortysomething, tough-but-sexy crew member — to Michelle Yeoh.

However, knowledgeable insiders say that Fox execs are nervous about pinning Scott’s costly CGI movie on such lesser-known actors as Rapace and, should a deal be made with him, Michael Fassbender (who, as this blog also previously reported is in negotiations to play the part of an android crewman), or Yeoh, and so wanted a bigger name for the part of Vickers.

Regardless, we’re told that Fox is having the role rewritten so that it’s larger and befitting, if not of Theron, then at least of someone of Theron’s stature. We're also told that the South African beauty should get the new version of the Alien script sometime this week and make her decision soon."

F-bomb!

Why does FOX have to keep on interfering with the directors intentions on these films!?

Did they not learn ANYTHING from the ALIEN3 debacle?

The Yeoh and Fassbender rumors were already debunked by a Fox executive.

It wouldn't be Fox if they weren't interfering with what the director wanted to do
