Finally was able to see it today. Liked it, didn't love it. Still left us with more questions than answers (concerning the Alien).

[Show spoiler]Halloway gets infected, impregnates Shaw, Shaw "gives birth, alien squid plants a seed in the engineer, which gives birth to the "chestburster".

However, we still haven't seen the true origin of the Alien species. Something I hope they explore in the sequel; along with why the Engineers created us, then wanted to kill us.

This is a bit of a conundrum. Almost evey single fan of that film will without question tell you to watch the director's cut and the director's cut only. Even the director in his interviews and commentary will tell you that the DC is the cut he always intended for the audience, but the studio felt the audience wouldn't understand it, so the messed with it a little.

I watched the DC. I was confused.

I went back a month or so later and watched the theatrical cut (all of this was about two years ago), which has some narration at the begininng that does indeed clear up my confusion, but also would have ruined the movie for me.

In essence, the DC is the one to watch, but you might be "left with more questions than answers" at first and will have to go back for seconds.

The reason the DC of Dark City is confusing is it does not hold your hand. The movie plays out like it doesn't care that you are there and so doesn't try to explain anything to you. You watch events unfold, and while you can piece some of it together, it is hard to make sense of it all on that first trip (at least, that's how it was for me).

But the DC is the one to watch, regardless.

[Show spoiler]Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve and the birth of the Trilobite and Deacon on Christmas Day.

The movie is saturated with Christian symbolism. I wonder how it will play in the Mid and Far East.

Actually, I'd just watch the DC a second time. Once you know what to look for, the second viewing will make a LOT more sense.

Usually what I do right after watching a movie is check it out over on IMDb, where I find that most often you can find almost all the answers for the film that you are looking for.

I try not to let some things bother me in films, so some of those complaints didn't matter to me really, but they are valid points.

Actually I believe that I also possibly OD'ed on trailers, spoilers, and screenshots(I have 424 of them tucked away in a folder) as I LOVE collecting sci-fi screens.
