It's the ceiling of the alien's old "movie palace" where they go to watch old Alien movies.

scott said he is making both a PG-13 and an R rated version of the movie. which version we get in theaters is up to fox and since they make more money with PG-13 its not hard to see which will most likely be in theaters. if it is PG-13 I will wait for the R rated blu not going to waste my money on a PG-13 "alien" movie

Fox

And knowing Fox, they'll want the PG-13 version

And even if its PG-13, i cant imagine not seeing a movie like this on the big screen.

If this film is rated PG13 then i want to see a full 'Alternate' version of the film rather than take the original R rated cut and trim and edit it for kids. Even so, there is part of me that is hoping that the film will be rated R.

Looking at Scott's comments, it seems to me that it's blatantly obvious what has happened. Scott has submitted the PG13 version of the film and those decrepit senile old coffin-dodgers at the MPAA want further cuts made.

Mr Scott, give the MPAA the finger and just say 'To hell with it!' and release your original version!

An awesome movie is an awesome movie regardless of rating. Good thing is, if there is a different version then we will get it on DVD/Blu-ray. Wins all round

I'm with you, if the story is good, then the film will have a hard time trying to suck, PG-13 or not. The only thing that might get lost is some of the effectiveness of the shock horror, but Scott has filmed with R in mind, so the Unrated cut will undoubtedly be more definitive and better

With that being said, if this gets an R theatrical release, I'm not going to be complaining

Ridley sounds very infuriated with the MPAA though, this sounds like either A) The PG-13 cut is still to strong with content or B) He really wants the R-rating and Fox don't

Liam, if it was Fox that Scott had issue with, it would be nothing to do with reaming out a new A Hole with the MPAA. It seems most likely that Scott has submitted a PG13 cut of the film and that the trims that the MPAA want to instigate are simply not acceptable to him.

As for the PG13/R debate, i would prefer a version of the film featuring sequences shot specifically for a PG13 rating rather than just cutting and trimming an original R rated film. The latter benefits no-one. We had a heavily cut 'Immortals' in this country to attain a 15 rating and it was so blatantly obvious where the cuts had been made.

I know, the cuts to Immortals were appalling

It seems like it'll be the MPAA's fault, but if he submitted the PG-13 cut and they want further cuts, then I can see him being aggravated by both sides, after all, if it's going to ruin the film, and Fox are still pushing for the cuts, you really can't do anything about it

Sign the petition against a PG-13 rating for this film!

Quote:
Dear Mr. Rothman and Fox,

We are your biggest fans. Some of us have waited for over 30 years for the day when Ridley Scott and Fox will release another Sci-Fi film. And it's not just any film. Prometheus is an indirect prequel to Alien. One of the biggest Sci-Fi/Horror franchises in film history. You should be blessed to know that legions of die hard fans will show up in droves to the theaters accross the world in support of this very important film.

The fan base wants to see an adult themed Sci-Fi Horror film. We want everything that made the original such an unforgettable experience. Relentless pace and scares, adult themes, dark mood, and a white knuckle intensity.

This cannot be achieved with a PG-13 rated film. It will not please your fans. We will be left heartbroken with an unfulfilled promise.

In yet another year filled with Superhero films, alien invasions, CGI cartoons, teen dramas, and Vampires - You have a real chance to differentiate this film from the crowd.

The audience has been yearning for years for an adult film. Do you remember the days of Terminator 2: Judgment Day? It was the most expensive film in history at that time and carried an R rating. The Matrix, True Lies, Alien, Aliens, and dozens of other films.

Adjusted for inflation, Alien and Aliens have made you the most money out of any other sequels. On the other hand, AVP was the only PG-13 film and it had one of the worst grosses. It's the quality that brings in the audience, not the rating.

A PG-13 Horror film is an insult to the fans. It cannot exist. It's a contradiction. We do not want the intensity toned down. We do not want Shaw running around with digitally altered black blood. We do not want more adult themes and situations left on the cutting room floor. And we certainly do not want Ridley Scott's vision sacrificed.

Please remember, we are your biggest fans. If you give us what we have wanted for so long, we will reward you with our fullest support.

Thank you Fox, Tom Rothman, and Ridley Scott for finally making another amazing Sci-Fi/Horror film.

I think the pieces are slowly falling into place where the MPAA is going to have a major overhaul of its ratings systems, I see a new hybrid rating making an appearance between PG-13 and R to widen the line between them.

I mean really the line is so narrow already, 2 F words? PG-13. 3 F words? R.

ScriptFlags is reporting that European markets will get the R rated version of the movie and the US will get the PG-13 rated version of the movie. They also report the difference in run-time (17 minutes) is related to the rating, meaning American audiences will NOT get the full intense experience as intended. I guess as a fan of the Alien franchise I should be used to getting jerked around.

If they do this I will not go see the film. I know people are going to say "yes, you will!" Sorry but no I won't. I can wait til Fall to see the proper version on blu-ray.

17 minutes chopped I don't care as much about the rating as I do about losing 17 minutes of content, that is a lot!

Ok. Here is a question. Is there a possibility of releasing BOTH versions here in the states? I don't know if it has ever been done before, but I bet it could work. They offer 3D and 2D versions of a film at the same time, so why not offer two different rated versions of a film if they are that different in running times.

FFFWHAT?!? 17 minutes?...cut? Anyone saying THAT doesnt matter and PG13 is fine is a tool. How can anyone be happy about having 1/6 of the movie cut out?
