I read these in the 1990's and they were a terrific read. Much better storylines than in the recent film releases.

Well, they did lift the aliens jail-break from the first book and used it in 'Resurrection', so you have that.

Not sure if this has been posted yet:

Quote:
We’ve heard a lot of rumors around Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien prequel but just about the only thing we know for sure it that it will involve the Space Jockey. The Space Jockey is the dead fellow who showed up in the first Alien, spotted on an alien ship which had been overrun by the other, more deadly aliens we’re already familiar with. That’s him, as he appeared in that film, in the image to your right.

Now Script Flags has what they claim may be the look of the Space Jockey in the upcoming prequel. It’s all concept art, and there’s really no way to confirm whether it’s real or not at this stage, but the designs do look sort of like the remains seen back in the first movie. Take a look below and click on the image to see it bigger on Script Flags:

From avpgalaxy-

Prequels Release Pushed Back

Alien Prequel News | Posted by Corporal Hicks on 04 Dec 2010 17:55 GMT

According to Scriptflags the release of both parts of the prequel have been pushed back:

“Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel #1 & #2 have both been pushed back a full twelve months to 2013 & 2014. There has been no official explanation from Fox or Scott’s camp. This comes two months after their first publicized fallout over budgetary and rating criteria.”

The article doesn’t state any sources however. Thanks to Shasvre for the news.

No surprise at all. You need to actually film to make a movie.

It's not a real suprise to me because everything about post-production on these films has felt rushed and I just didn't believe that filming would be up and running early next year.

It could also be that Ridely and Fox are still in debates over the rating, because I can't imagine Ridely wanting to continue with a low PG-13 rating.

Whilst it is dissapointing, I'm not too bothered by this news, because I think there needs to be a break from Alien after the hype of the Anthoolgy set, so when the prequels come out it'll be fresh and new.

Betcha' Fincher is grinning and shaking his head at the news. Fox really rode him hard when he was making his film.

hopefully this means that Scott and Fox are trying to work together and this doesn't point towards Scott's departure. But if they are still having $$$$, creative, and rating issues, I could see him leaving.

Production was announced as having already started, and Ridley said in an interview that stages had been booked from November. Scriptflags have been reporting some bogus, sourceless stories lately. I don't believe them. Hicks at AVPG has contacted FOX US to confirm these rumours, so we'll see then.

The movies haven't been delayed Fox has said but they haven't been greenlit yet either.

Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ Prequel Reportedly Titled ‘Paradise,’ Filming Not Delayed
Quote:
There’s some big news on Ridley Scott‘s two-part prequel to his 1979 film Alien. First up, time to kill off the rumor that the project has been delayed: Fox says that there is no delay. (The interesting reason for the rumor is after the break.)

But more important, a report says that the first film is called Paradise, and that cast sought by Ridley Scott includes Michael Fassbender and Michelle Yeoh. More info on the character details and plot of the film are also after the break. And note that there are possible spoilers in the info that follows.
First up: the title. Vulture does not explain any context for the title, but doesn’t refer to the film as Alien: Paradise or anything like that. Just Paradise. But the report does say,

We’re told that Paradise reboots the original Alien franchise, in that the story follows a group of space travelers who encounter a monstrous alien creature that picks them off, one-by-one.

That’s less than inspiring, but could be a broad generalization. I hope it is a broad generalization. Because while I was nervous about a film that explored the ‘space jockey’ from Alien (pictured above), I’m far more nervous about something that boils down to a reboot. The news that Damon Lindelof‘s script revisions were well-received was good, but now…

So let’s talk about casting. Vulture reports that Leonardo DiCaprio was sought for the lead role at one point, and efforts to work out a schedule that would see this film shot after Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar are what resulted in the rumored shooting delay. But Mr. DiCaprio hasn’t been cast, and the schedule remains as it was before the rumor. The idea that Ridley Scott would look for someone like Leonardo DiCaprio is interesting — what part in the film would be well-suited for him? Even when he’s part of an ensemble cast (The Departed) he has a tendency to stand out. I don’t see it, but then I haven’t read the script.

There’s also word that the director wanted Michael Fassbender for a character called David, who is an android and precursor to the Ash and Bishop characters from Alien and Aliens. But Mr. Fassbender’s quote has risen astronomically, and he may be out of the running for now. Too bad if so — I’d love to see Robo-Fassbender.

There’s also a character called Vickers, “a 40-something, tough-but-sexy woman,” for which Michelle Yeoh is being sought. If you read the spoilerish script details we posted a while back, you might guess, as I do, that this is the Vasquez-like character mentioned there, assuming those details were correct.

Other characters:

Elizabeth Shaw: the main female lead, for which Noomi Rapace remains a front-runner.
An unnamed ‘older businessman along for the ride’. Shades of Burke from Aliens?
Engineer 1: a character to be played by a very tall actor who will be repalced by CGI, a la Gollum in Lord of the Rings. Will Doug Jones be hired?

I like the original concept more than this generic rehash. Maybe Damon Lindenoff needs some alone time with the alien queen. a little attitude adjustment.
