Yeah, the 3D is tops. I'd say the best use of the tech ever goes to:

1. Hugo
2. Prometheus
3. Avatar

It just adds another layer to the visual depth of films (when used correctly). Kinda how bump-mapping made everything in video games seem like more than just art-filled polygons.

I haven't even seen the movie.....how is the movie? I'm on the verge of derailing the thread....ANYway, who thinks that the
[Show spoiler] Deacon actually did some kind of "impregnation" on anyone who it'd encounter...
Just a thought....

To continue on the tangent, I haven't seen Hugo either. I did blind buy a while back and I'm finally going to watch it this weekend. Wish I would have been able to see it in 3D too, but oh well.

To keep it on topic, I am glad I saw Prometheus in 3D though.

LOL! That's why I asked the question that I did at the end....what are YOUR thoughts on that theory?

Hugo is good, but I think if i saw it in 3D it would have been better. Prometheus is the best damn 3D movie I have personally seen. I like how nothing really comes out at you, but enhances the map, huds, and such. Saw it three times already!

I think there are other people that could answer that better than me.

Honestly, it's possible I guess, but I don't know. I'd need to watch it again to give a better answer because I know this one sucks.

My copy of The Art of the Film Prometheus just arrived today!

Does this film have its warts? Sure. But I can't remember the last time a film captivated me this much. It's whole is definitely greater than some questionable selected parts. I definitely plan on seeing it for a third time before it exists theaters. Seeing it in IMAX 3D on a true IMAX screen was a revelation.

Great, isn't it? I got mine on Friday and love it to pieces. The design work on this film is incredible.

Then go to the Mallorn theater with Celeborn and see Hugo in 3D. Take the some of the Galadhrim and enjoy it.....it is done right.

3D home projectors are becoming more and more affordable and, if you like 3D, I strongly suggest exploring that angle. I wasn't a huge fan to the story line of Hugo, the the visuals were done just right....just right. Visually, Prometheus is right up there and is a 1st day buy for me.

The people criticizing those who dislike the movie sometimes seem to assume it's because the detractors wanted more answers and tie-ins to Alien. However, much of the criticism arises from simply bad writing.

Guy is afraid of anything lively, yet wants to pet the snake creature.
Crew thinks oxygen in atmosphere is good enough to remove helmets despite not testing for presence of other harmful gases.
etc.

Just bad, pseudo-scientific writing. The sooner Hollywood realizes Lindelof isn't a grade A sci-fi writer, the better (see: Lost, Cowboys and Aliens).

Cowboys and Aliens has a dozen writers. Not fair to blame him.

I still don't see how the Lost connection is supposed to be an insult.

In any case, a lot of us have acknowledged that this film isn't perfect and has some flaws. But there's a lot of elements in it that have won us over in spite of those shortcomings. In my opinion, there's a lot to love in this movie.

Very well put. Can't argue with any of that.
