I've never seen the film, but I'm certain, judging buy the trailer and reviews, that it's worth every bit of $26 and then some. It definitely looks to be some beautiful noir goodness.

I haven’t seen it, but still bought it just because it was directed by Duvivier. Love his films, especially from the 30’s & 40’s.

Out of the films I have seen from this decade (and there are many I am still to get around to), I have no problems with calling these masterpieces (although I am sure someone will post disagreeing with some of all of these choices):

Beyond the Hills
Toni Erdmann
Tree of Life
Inside Llewyn Davis
The Social Network
L’Illusioniste
Tabu
Once Upon a Time in Anatolia
The Wild Pear Tree

And these are probably close:

Roma
Burning
Arrival
Ida
Phantom Thread
The Master
A Separation
Jackie
Frances Ha
The Florida Project
Zama
Carol
Inherent Vice
Elena

Can't wait for this one! New interview with Nancy Allen. Hopefully, the price will come down some.

Criterion prices don't come down, outside of the sales.

Well it's listed as MSP $39.99, it's on sale on their site for $31.99, so Amazon might list it a little lower. Some Criterion titles ARE reduced the first week of release.

Amazon might go as low as $27 or so before release date. Afterwards it can go as far down as $23 or so.

Yea, if you're Barnes & Noble.

If I remember correctly, Godzilla (1956) was also released by Amazon, under $20 on release day.

UPDATE: My bad, it was $27.

Agree so much. I gave it an A+, for two reasons: it is indeed a masterpiece, but also because I don't ever remember seeing anything like it before. It really effected me. It was like being transported to a different dimension or something.

Criterion posts a drawing on New Year's Day with a myriad number of "clues" for their impending releases throughout that year...some easy, some more difficult and cryptic.

Join this thread on New Year's Day as someone invariably posts the drawing and posters have at deciphering them...chaos, hilarity and clever guesses ensue!

As you look to be new to these threads, welcome.
