Word is Criterion has requested/told B&N not to include 4K titles. Anyone confirm?

If this turns out to be true I do wonder if Criterion would allow them at half off during there own flash sale.

No idea. But that would be a horrible way for Criterion to enter the 4K market.

And FWIW, Arrow 4K titles are half off during the current BN sale.

If 4Ks aren't in the sale, I'm never buying any Criterion 4Ks. No way I can ever justify paying their prices for one movie.

Yep, full price Criterions are simply too rich for my blood unless it’s something I love and absolutely must have.

Good timing for the Barnes and Noble criterion sale. Had some giftcards I got for 50% off I've been waiting to use.

If the 4ks aren’t on sale, I’m burning my entire Criterion collection. In fact, I’ll burn the rest of my collection as well to really drive in the point.

Can you come and burn mine, too? I'm furious but I am just not tough enough to do it myself. This company's shenanigans are just the very definition of unreasonable!

If it is true, since Amazon usually matches the B&N sale maybe they’ll discount 4K to get the advantage. Amazon has certainly shown they’ll price things whatever way they want.

Oh, man, this thread is too long. I didn’t realize this rumor came from a post a couple of pages back.

While I agree that 4K titles should be included in the sale, all this discussion of destroying one's Criterion Collection is absurd. No one in their right mind would do that, nor would anyone believe that a sane person would do that.

With that said, I think Criterion would be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't include 4K titles in the 50% off sale. Perhaps they plan to allow the 50% off only on their two annual sales, and not the B&N sales. But if they're not going to sell their 4K titles at a 50% off rate during the year then I'm afraid their 4K venture is doomed. Few people will spend $60 for a movie, 4K or not.

Amazon is discounting the 4ks by $15 now and Criterion is discounting them by $10 on their website. Those type discounts have been standard for a while and likely to continue. Most all of the Criterion $40 titles (currently through June 2021) have been discounted at 1/2 price at least since the last B&N sale. The more expensive titles have similar discounts. Newer releases are discounted by Amazon by $12. The only time you pay full price is in a B&N store when there is not a sale.

The claims of burning sound like hyperbole. People like to joke around and won’t seriously burn their collection.

Barnes & Noble

I can't see Criterion telling Barnes and Nobles to exclude UHDs. A lot of people have put in hard work to determine the cost of UHDs after 50% off.
