So my Barnes and Noble still had the signs up for the 30% off sale so they honored the discount and I picked up Mishima, The Manchurian Candidate, The Girl Can't Help It, Malcolm X and Daisies.

You're lucky. In my neck of the woods, B&N doesn't even carry DVDs or Blu-rays anymore.

The Doinel series of films has been playing around in retro cinemas, via Janus, it is only a matter of time before they are re-issued on 4K and BD by Criterion.

In the meantime, Kino certainly has a nice batch coming up in February.

It certainly doesn't make sense. I've been under the impression BN is a store that primarily carries Criterion Collection blu-rays and just so happens to sell books, coffee, and cookies. Half off a cookie is a crumby deal.

Do we have any update on the state of Mexican classics being published by Criterion that Guillermo del Toro mentioned nearly 3 years ago? The only Mexican film they've released since that tweet is... Amores perros. I'd take one of that Buñuel in Mexico boxset, please!

A Buñuel in Mexico boxset is one of my personal most wanted releases.

(That and a Claude Chabrol 1968-1971 set.)

I have no idea who has the rights to these films, so this is purely wishful thinking for a 1968-1971 box:

I'd settle for stand-alone releases of La Femme infidèle, This Man Must Die, Nada, Une partie de plaisir, Blood Relatives, The Cry of the Owl, L'Enfer, and La Cérémonie, or a box-set that includes all of those.

While on the topic of The Rules of the Game, I figure I'd mention the great new poster done by artist Raphael Geroni for its 4K restoration re-release. He does some of the best custom typography work of any artist in my opinion. I have to imagine this will likely be the cover for any future 4K release as well.
