There was a rumor, maybe from an interview with Catherine Breillat can't remember for sure, that Criterion/Janus now have most of, if not all, of her filmography.

I will likely be attending most, if not all, of the screenings I linked above, so I can update you all on which have the Janus logo and which don’t after the retrospective

Since we got some Albert Brooks first time on Blu-Ray films coming in August which I will be pre-ordering in July here’s some other Paramount titles Criterion should release on Blu-Ray, and heck 4K UHD.

Paper Moon Criterion definitely has this
Alfie even though I think Kino might release this as it’s a Michael Caine movie and Kino has released a lot of those I think there’s a possibility Criterion might release it too
The Out of Towners Criterion might release this too Kino obviously doesn’t have it
The Confession French romantic comedy
The Bear and the Doll another French film
Alfredo Alfredo Italian romantic comedy
Bringing out the Dead

Someone has Paper Moon, we just don't know who. It could be Criterion, it could be Kino, it could be VS, it could be Paramount Presents. We don't know.

Insane, because this doesn't even have a US Blu-ray.

If I'm not mistaken, the MoC Blu-ray of Paper Moon was announced day-and-date with Blu-rays of Who's That Knocking At My Door and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. While Paper Moon was released, the two Scorseses never showed up for reasons unknown.

The Out-Of-Towners, original or remake, is either KL, Shout, or Paramount. I can't see anyone else taking either one. The original was recently released by Imprint.

Bringing Out The Dead, I've just heard rumors from other users. Nothing official from anyone. The last time that movie was released, it was a release of the VHS, laserdisc, and DVD on May 9, 2000. Not only is it 24 years ago, but it's one of the few discs where we're literally working off a laserdisc transfer to watch the movie.

This needs to be fixed yesterday.

I believe Le Chat Qui Fume (or another French distributor) is releasing a collection of Breillat films when they were asked about the USA release. They replied that another distributor had access to the films in the USA.

I agree they seem a little thinner/lighter than before

I found what I was looking for here, last year she said in an interview with Cahiers du cinéma that Criterion was releasing all her films.

The 'Last Summer' we're thinking of only has one last good print in circulation and is occasionally used at Tarantino's theater.

It's the R-rated cut, though. Not the X rated cut with the uncut ending.

Still, even that cut would be welcomed on BD. I only have a DVD which includes both versions from a VHS rip from video beat.com.

The rights belong to Warner, but neither they nor any other label seems interested in doing a BD.

I saw it multiple times when it first came out and still have my ancient VHS tape. TCM shows it occasionally but it’s p&s and the ending is so clumsily edited that it’s just a choppy mess. I hope the original cut can be located and restored.

It's with Warner so maybe Warner Archives will get around to it. It would sell absurdly well for whoever does it, though. It seems sometimes like these labels go out of there way to not release things that would sell well.

Both versions being the R and X versions, or the R and PG versions?

As far as I know, Last Summer had three cuts, the X rated cut, the R rated cut, and the PG rated cut. For elements, it’s either one 16mm print, or one 35mm print with the final reel on 16mm. Also, that one print is conformed to the R rated cut, meaning that there’s a chance for lost footage at this point.

Per GF, this is not a case where they don’t want to do it, they do but elements issues are blocking the way. That one print is so bad that any Blu-ray or DVD would be terrible. Perhaps technology will improve. The negatives for Gone With The Wind, Lawrence Of Arabia, and the first two Godfather movies were nearly tossed for being so bad they could never be used, and yet all those negatives have been used at least twice on restorations. If technology advances enough, we may get a definitive Last Summer release from this one print in the future.

But George is aware, he wants to do it, and he very well may do it. We just have to give him a chance.

Didn't know about all of that. The ending is prob where the different cuts come in. If there is a PG version of 'Last Summer', I don't want to see it. It was intended for mature audiences despite the characters being adolescents.

I saw The Long Good Friday yesterday on the Criterion Channel and was impressed at how good it was. Bob Hoskins was amazing and the story kept me enthralled the whole time.

I also noticed that it opened with the Criterion/Janus logo and I'm wondering if we're going to see a 4K release soon since Arrow just released its own version in the UK.
