Shouldn't the 50% off Sale start this month? Or is it usually July.

It should start now and last until the end of the year. But yeah, July.

Seven Samurai came out on Blu-ray nearly 14 years ago in the US. Here's hoping it'll be released for the B&N sale this November

Seeing how they have numerous films languishing away on DVD, and films that don't even have a physical release, I would say the chances are really great. 🤗

Hopefully it won’t be too long before we get a UHD for Seven Samurai.

I also would appreciate confirmation that we will never get a Kurosawa box set. I know it's really low, but the Fellini and Bergman boxes have me second guessing the chance.

Yeah, I would like to get confirmation that we are/aren’t getting an Kurosawa box set considering that many have got 4K releases in Japan. Though, I will take Seven Samurai on 4K over nothing as Seven Samurai is my all-time favorite film.

It's pretty impossible to tell from an internet video. Not only would it throw away most of data, but it's quite possible that they overprocessed the trailer in a way that has nothing to do with the film presentation itself. We shall see.

I think this just basically confirms this film is getting a 4K UHD this year what month this year I don’t know, but we are essentially getting one now.

Three previous dual-format titles are getting re-released on July 9th: La vie de bohème, Hearts and Minds, and Riot in Cell Block 11.

Trouble in Paradise and That Hamilton Woman are at the very top of my list, the latter being my tenth favorite film ever. Definitely recommend those. It's even more infuriating with the former, since a semi-recent restoration actually exists for it.

If the UHD quality is gonna be similar to the Japanese UHD that came out last year, then it may unfortunately look soft: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...213523&i=5&l=0

With that said, I don't ever judge the grain and clarity for a YouTube video because of the automatic compression.

I'd love to get both of those too. I have several times over the years thought to myself that I need to pick up Trouble in Paradise at the next Criterion sale, only to remember that they still haven't put it out.

Lincoln Center doing a retrospective on Jacques Rozier, in collaboraton with Janus Films in August:

Quote:
Jacques Rozier

August 16-22

It is well-established that the French New Wave forever changed our understanding of what a film could be, playing with both the medium’s formal conventions and Hollywood’s immortal iconography to produce some of cinema’s most stylish and enduringly influential works. Yet, for as large as such figures as Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, and Éric Rohmer loom within standard accounts of this incomparably fertile period of film history, less well-known are the works of their contemporary Jacques Rozier, whose 1962 debut feature, Adieu Philippine, was a particular cause for the critic-iconoclasts of Cahiers du Cinéma. Across five idiosyncratic, episodic features, and an assortment of fiction and documentary short films, Rozier distinguished himself from his peers through his fixation on the idea of vacations as theatrical staging grounds upon which his magnetic actors could play and simply be, making him something like a more lighthearted (though no less complex) counterpart to his fellow New Waver, Jacques Rivette. It is remarkable that Rozier’s influence has been so profoundly felt considering how rarely his singular films have screened outside of France. On the occasion of an assortment of new restorations of his signature films (including Du côté d’Orouët [1973] and Maine-Océan [1986]), Film at Lincoln Center presents a long overdue (and appropriately summer-set) retrospective dedicated to this unheralded legend of French cinema.

Organized by Florence Almozini and Dan Sullivan. Presented in collaboration with Janus Films.

I am always way more excited when I see a blu-ray/4k release of a title never before released on blu-ray or DVD compared to a 4K upgrade of a blu-ray title.
