It was the best movie I've ever seen as far as critiquing our culture of cameras and surveillance. It's almost a voyeuristic thrill where the tables are suddenly turned on the viewer. I love how virtually every angle of the movie could be footage from a hidden camera. It's an icy, unsettling affair, but brilliantly done. One of the best Hitchcock films that Hitchcock never made.

At any rate, I'm glad that I'll be watching the final scene in high definition now, because it demands that sort of viewing.

With all the Lynch talk, it's funny that Cache is based off the first act of Lost Highway. Well, that's where Haneke borrowed the idea from. Maybe someone already posted that.

What about that one scene did you never "figure out"? I mean, there's no clear answer, but the implications are pretty interesting.

And you really should see Amour. Best film of 2012 by a mile.

So far, In Another Country and Tabu (along with Tsai's short film Walker) are my favorites of 2012. Still need to see Kiarostami's Like Someone in Love.

Four? I'm only aware of three Melville films that Criterion has released on blu? Bob is out of print so I doubt we'll see an upgrade anytime soon, but I'd be a happy camper if they'd release at least Le Deuxième Souffle, Le Doulos and Le Samouraï. He may not have directed that many films but it's all about quality.

You're right, three. I had Au Revoir Les Enfants and Les Enfants Terribles crossed up.

(I always try to give Melville Elevator to the Gallows too for some reason)

I saw Mulholland Dr. for the first time on Saturday. Excellent film! I would love for Criterion to put it out, but would they be able to since Studio Canal did the film?

During preparations before shooting Cache I learned about this massacre in a documentary on Arte, it took place in Paris in 1961, and about 200 Arabs were shot or thrown into the Seine, and it wasn't mentioned for four decades. I've seen so much praise for those two, but neither really did much for me.

My favorites were Holy Motors, The Master, and Keep The Lights On. Found 2012 to have an overwhelming amount of great films.

I spoke to the guy who ran Tartan films a few years ago and he'd talked to Lynch's co-writer on LOST HIGHWAY. According to him, the main inspiration for the film was the OJ Simpson case; which makes sense of a lot of things, imo.
