British Realism is one of my favourite genres. However, I'm in the same boat as you as for some reason I never picked up the Network BD before it went OOP. The only consolation is that reviews show it's a modest upgrade, and the Criterion DVD has some great extras, including multiple additional Anderson short films. The DVD is still in print, so let's hope a BD release will be forthcoming.

Although I suppose we could always pick up the "official" Spanish release...

Would you happen to have a time-stamp?

In a different episode he mentioned watching it on YouTube and someone telling him about the obnoxious rights issues causing it to be buried. I wouldn’t get any hopes up.

I remember someone saying on here a while back that Direct was the correct way to decode things?

Satyajit Ray's 100th birthday is next year 2021. They did a box for Bergman for his 100th, Fellini for his 100th. I wonder . . .

There aren't really any "rights issues" other than the fact that Bristol-Meyers-Squibb owns the film, along with Sleuth and The Stepford Wives, and the amount they are asking for the licence is higher that what most boutique labels are willing to pay. If Criterion decides to meet their price for these titles, or if BMS have come to their senses and lowered their asking price, there really aren't any other obstacles to releasing them.

I wasn’t saying it, just repeating what he said. I would’ve done quotes and directly quote him but I didn’t remember exactly how he phrased it.

Not if it's matrixed surround sound.

Looks like I found one, My Own Private Idaho. Criterion's site says:

"2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray"

Screwed that one up with Direct when I watched it last year. I just now guessed it was matrixed because I remember the DTS 2.0 track and knew that almost any American movie after 1977 (?) was released theatrically in six channel audio.

Sure enough, the back of the package says so too. So yeah, I definitely wouldn't just do Direct in every scenario. I'm glad at least Criterion appears to tell you what it really is.

I know it wasn't you saying it directly, I just wanted to clarify it a bit though.

Begs the question, what is the point of the 5.1 track on My Own Private Idaho?

Hope we get announcements tomorrow. It's been really quiet this month when it comes to announcements, so hopefully we get some good stuff.

I hope there at least six titles announced at the very least. I hate it so much when they announce less than that. REALLY hope Red Beard or Stray dog is announced for an upgrade.

I would love for those to be upgraded, but I don't think we'll see anymore Kurosawa titles until a boxset comes out.

Stray Dog and Drunken Angel for me. I don't really care about people complaining about Criterion announcements at this point. If it doesn't happen, oh well, at least the film came out.

I'm darn sure there will eventually be an upgraded Akira box, but sadly it will probably be a while yet. To hold me over I'd like those two.

I saw Criterion's '54 Gojira last night. The picture had a good organic look but all the (literally) millions of white scratches was distracting. Did they not have the negative? Was this a copy that had those scratches cemented on there from the damaged negative?

The o-negative is gone. They had to use a 35mm fine-grain master positive for their transfer.

Was https://www.barnesandnoble.com/ breached? A friend of mine in IT posted something about it, and I'm seeing random tweets with people receiving e-mails from B&N informing them (I haven't gotten one, but I changed my pass anyway - just in case).
