And just like that Ruth Gordon leaves the Collection in one fowl swoop.

I'm not sure I follow. I just ordered online with shipping. Am I not guaranteed a copy?

As long as it's in stock now you should be fine esp if you ordered this early before the vultures get their notices.

Some B&N online orders are filled through the ALLIANCE Warehouse and some will be mailed directly from teh stores (like BBY does certain items). If the Warehouse is OOS then all the copies will come directly from the stores which means any in-store copies may evaporate pretty quickly rather than sitting there for weeks/months. Since Deep Discount and the sisters seem to be saying some are backordered and other aren't even listed on the website, that makes me wonder if the Warehouse really is sold out or at least very low stock.

If you're close enough to a store I might call them and have them pull any copies you might want and let you pick them up. You could even do an ISPU order, but I've had about half of those cancelled (couldn't find it, OOS, just sold last copy).

This sucks. I only got "La Dolce Vita"...

Are there any good releases from other labels for these titles?

I ordered Harold and Maude from Amazon. I’m confused, I thought Criterion announced when titles were going OOP?

Apparently not... We just got spoiled by that great set of announcements they made a few years back with the Studio Canal titles they were licensing and had to pull. That was really nice...

In this case, though, I think recent Paramount reshuffling and of course the launch of Paramount+ may very well have something to do with it...

Is there a list published in this forum anywhere of the Paramount titles over on SHOUT?

I was preparing to panic, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. I’ll see what’s still around, if anything, during the next B&N sale.

Not sure, but I’m pretty sure all or most of Shout’s Paramount titles got released starting around late 2019. So, they shouldn’t be going OOP anytime soon.

Went ahead and snatched Harold and Maude and Seconds. I don't want to miss out on any of the Paramount titles now. I am hoping Parallax View and Medium Cool will be safe until July for the B&N sale. We'll see.

Parallax View was literally just released last month. It should be available for at least 5 years.

If you are in the US, walk into abput 1/2-2/3 of Barnes and Noble stores and pick it up in person if you can beat the scalpers who went rushing out to gather up those 6 titles as fast as possible -- or order it online

If you have a disc that went bad, contact Criterion and see if they'll replace it now that they may have some unsold copies sitting around (possible unsellable depending on their contract with Paramount)
Last time I checked The BD was "currently unavailable", which probably means they sold off all their remaining stock and it's gone.

This is very nerve-wracking for me ever since we saw the preorders on Monday. I wouldn't have a problem at all if only BD's were as durable as they were advertised back in the mid 00s.I almost never watched movies for two years because I had DVDs that kept skipping after a few years of use and it just ruined it for me. I look at my shelf on the wall and sometimes I feel anxiety not knowing if certain discs still work or not. Compounding this problem is when the Criterions go out of print and knowing you're on a ticking time clock now when you were sold on the idea that BDs last forever and you never need to replace them ever again, and that is absolutely proven not true. Fine, I can just get the new Paramount versions, I guess, but it feels painful having to delete a Criterion from your library for something that could be an inferior release and now I'm depressed and angry because of this. I though I was over this anxiety years ago and now because of one company's decision everything falls apart again.

La Dolce Vita is with Paramount via Republic/NTA.

Apparently, the US rights went from Astor Pictures to Republic Pictures, which now operates as "Melange Pictures" through Paramount.

Melange is basically the Republic/National Telefilm Associates/Spelling Entertainment/etc. libraries. Criterion has only licensed one other film, Riot in Cell Block 11 (originally Allied Artists, sold to NTA along with Invasion of the Body Snatchers) while the majority of films from this library have had Blu-rays released via Olive and Kino.

Replacement discs are often separate than For Sale items. There are promo copies, bare copies, demos and I'm assuming a few new spares available on many releases. If they have a few items in stock that they can't legally sell, those items couple still be used for replacements.

If folks have a bad disc, contact Criterion at the orders site and see what they say. OOS or even OOP doesn't mean all copies are gone immediately, but the earlier you ask you more likely it is

If you contact them and they really don't have a copy, then you're certainly no worse off than you will be by worrying about something that may be fixable.

I usually start with orders@criterion.com -- I've only had 3 disc I know that needed replaced out of many hundred. And at the absolute worst -- it's just a Bluray disc, not a body part or significant other
and usually they either help or forward it directly to the correct dept.

Or you could just mail the bad disc to them and see if that will push them

This set was released in 10/2019 so it would not seem to be in licensing danger?

Just tried to watch “Le Cercle Rouge” today and it freezes at about the 1 hour 51 minute mark, right after the baddies shoot the security door. My disc looks to be in perfect shape. No bronzing of any kind on it either. LCR owners might want to check and see if their disc might turn bad as well...
