I guess we're well past the days when Criterion would release something as daring and provocative as Prognosis Negative.

As long as they don’t make me sit through The English Patient again.

Can't wait to grab Written on the Wind tomorrow. It had probably become my most wanted Criterion upgrade, and it got higher and higher on the list each year they didn't announce it lol. Coincidentally, it'll also officially be my 1000th blu-ray.

They could do a double feature if they do Chunnel.

I am hoping for Rhythm on Ice. Jane Frazee does not get much attention nowadays but she is great in this, especially her scenes with Buddy Ebsen.

I second this. I was only able to see this film from a bad VHS bootleg that I picked up in NYC. Criterion could do it justice.

Bad?

That bootleg was a piece of art. The zooms... *chef's kiss*.

I freaking hope so. I didn’t buy the Fellini and Wong box sets because to hell with them, but I got the Bergman set. Almodovar and Chaplin sets seem likely. And everyone keeps talking about Kurosawa too

Aaaand my local shop's Criterion shipment got delayed. No Written on the Wind for me today lol.

Hopefully they'll get it in by the end of the week. I don't usually get Criterions on release day, but I've been anticipating this one for literally years.

Same. I've been waiting for ages and I pre-ordered as soon as I could. Today I got a notification saying that it shipped, yay!
You'll get your copy soon enough, I'm sure.

Monica Vitti has passed away.

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...-b2005917.html

Really loved her in Red Desert, L'Avventura, L'eclisse and La notte. An icon of Italian cinema. She will be missed. RIP.

L'Avventura was one of those rare films that I bought on a whim solely because of the actress on the cover. She can command your attention with as little as the turn of her head.

I love Monica Vitti's presence in all four of those films. Those may not be the most accessible movies in the world, but she and the other cast members made them inviting just the same.

I need to shake the dust off of those Blu-rays and revisit them soon.
