They know the titles, but they might need to finish the writeups.

I remember when certain rights issues held up the announcement of Moonstruck, which held up all of the announcements of the month to the point where they announced everything a few days late while only putting up temp art for Moonstruck.

They may have certain arrangements with artists that always go down to the wire and run into weekends.

I didn't say it did. I had even added "I don't mind waiting".

The other glaring omission is Peter Weir's The Last Wave getting a blu release. Both of these films seem like a no-brainer and have been sitting in Criterion's dust bin for far too many years.

I regularly bet big money on underground betting sites on Criterion titles. These dudes don’t play, especially since I’m bad at guessing. So a leg might get broken if I don’t pay them big or guess right.

I like thrillers, film noir, science fiction, and occasional classics like On the Waterfront. Criterion likes art house, and I hate art house. So yes, I think there's a very high chance of that.

Don't the semi-annual Criterion sales always take place in July and November?

The Barnes and Noble ones do. But the ones directly from Criterion usually are usually in mid-late February (
though occasionally in early March) and October.

I've never been sure why those; as a whole, not pointing at you or anything; not interested in Art-House films care so much on what Criterion releases. It's mostly what they're known for and is their forte. I'm not a horror movie or cult film fan so labels like Grindhouse or Vinegar Syndrome don't interest me. I have no expectations of them or read the threads.

Our beloved movies are great from whomever releases them; well, maybe except for Mills Creek.

At the moment Warner Archives is the kick-butt label. Maybe not so much on supplements, but their restorations are eye-candy.

I won big money on the 5 title parlay last month. If only sports betting were that much fun.

I’m a film noir fan too, and tend to prefer genre films over arthouse and world cinema. I own about 25% of Criterion’s spine-numbered releases, and if you add in my wish list, that takes it up to around 40% of their output that I’d be keen to own if funds permitted. The majority of the remaining 60% I’d happily accept as a gift, but there’s probably around 10% of their output that I just don’t want and would likely never watch (some of these are clearly good films by talented directors that I just can’t get into as they just don’t chime with my sensibilities - Richard Linklater’s and John Waters’ entire oeuvres and The Piano are just a few examples). I’ll never be a Criterion completist as, irrespective of financial constraints, there’s just too significant a chunk of their output that I have little or no interest in.

From the perspective of a film noir and neo-noir fan, I think Criterion’s recent output has been fairly solid: Nightmare Alley, High Sierra, Deep Cover, Miller’s Crossing and the upcoming 4K of Double Indemnity. They’ve also recently released (or are about to release) some solid genre pics - The Incredible Shrinking Man, Throw Down, The Flight of the Phoenix; crime films such as Menace II Society, Shaft and Uncut Gems; the noir-influenced Chan is Missing and the excellent wartime mystery thriller Mr Klein are also worth checking out; and not forgetting Hollywood classics such as Bringing Up Baby, Citizen Kane 4K and The Girl Can’t Help It.

The idea that any reasonably open-minded film enthusiast won’t find a least one film of interest in Criterion’s July to October release slate seems like an extraordinary suggestion to me.

Have you ever been to Art's house? It's a nice house, just saying.
