Posting this in regards to B & N sale & continuity of 4k line.. does it stand to reason that insiders read these forums similar to Shout Factory threads and if wishlists are created, they may be taken in to consideration or is too broad of a category in which that exercise would be futile?

I don’t know but Criterion welcomes emails for suggestions of future titles.

Peter Brook has died. RIP. https://www.theguardian.com/stage/20...y-dies-aged-97

He was the director of Lord of the flies amongst other titles. I hope we can get a decent release (it has been restored) for Marat / Sade, a personal favourite of mine.

Heads-up, War of the Worlds (1953) coming to 4K directly from Paramount alongside When Worlds Collide!

Some reviewers give marks based on whether or not there's a "C" on the cover.

My modest haul consisted of Pink Flamingos and Summertime. I know it's not a whole lot, especially compared to last year, but I'm happy with my choices.

Shaft in 4K looked astounding and this had some pretty great extras with a documentary and a look at the novels.

I watched Shaft 4K UHD last night. I thought it looked very good, especially the darker scenes. But I've yet to compare it to the Digital HD copy I own. I'll hopefully do that later today.

I'm really starting to dive into Criterion - I went wild with a $500 1/2 of B&N purchase but I'm trying to curate a great collection so I'm dealing with some things:

1. Do any of you try to find OOP titles and are there essentials to find? Like one for me might be THE THIRD MAN Do you think Criterion will ever re-issue some of these titles like ROSEMARY'S BABY, THIRD MAN, ETC (could be right's issues).

2. I have probaly 50 - 100 titles (would have to count) but I want to make sure I'm getting the "90% of Criterion Fans agree - these are the ESSENTIALS" - For instance SEVEN SAMURAI comes up on a MUST OWN from most people.

3. I love the BLIND BUY aspect. I know we all have different film tastes but if anyone wants to comment on whether they only buy films theyve seen or whether the use certain resources for Blind Buys - I would love to know that too.

Thanks y'all!!

I mostly hit up Directors, cinematographers, Actors, and Actresses I know I love on blind buys so if the movie isn’t to my liking at least I know I will have enjoyed something about the film after viewing and then I sell or trade what I’m displeased with… with Kino and Criterion I will also just type in a complete titles search in alphabetical order and randomly select a title to read a synopsis. I’ve rarely came across a purchase I wasn’t happy with to some degree. Sometimes if the art is striking I’ll blind buy and let it be a surprise.

I highly recommend these Criterion Titles if you don’t already own them:
Charade
The Devil’s backbone
Foreign Correspondent
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Great Dictator
High Sierra
In a Lonely Place
Ivan’s childhood
The Lady Vanishes
The Life Aquatic
The Lodger
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Moonrise Kingdom
Notorious
Pan’s Labyrinth
Princess Bride
Rebecca
Solaris
Stalker

Keeping in mind that, like you said, everyone's tastes are a little different, my "essentials" would be the Bergman set, the John Casavettes set, stuff by Jim Jarmusch, Alex Cox, John Waters, Brian De Palma, and David Lynch. All Cronenberg is definitely worth it!

I usually try to complete what is available from certain filmmakers in the collection, like I have completed Lynch and De Palma during previous sales, this sale I rounded out my Jarmusch collection, and might go ahead and grab the missing John Waters films. That's what I do. As far as any specific films or editions, I'd definitely recommend;

Blow Out (coming soon from CC in 4K)
Mystery Train
Smooth Talk
Repo Man
Persona
Wings of Desire

Hope this helps!

I really enjoyed Stromboli, I’m sore tempted to vacation there for that price. And Ingrid is a beautiful work of art

I guess I should've put first name for context, I meant Ingmar Bergman, I actually don't have the Ingrid Bergman set yet.

With Kino and July's B&N's Criterion sales going on at once I decided to semi-split the money I saved up for these sales. I'm much more behind on Kino titles so I bought more from them, then did my normal two films on the B&N CC sale:

For elitynski, I don't know how your tastes run, but here is a list of Criterions:

12 Angry Men
Ace in the Hole
Asphalt Jungle
Barry Lyndon
Brazil
Cat People
Dazed and Confused
Diabolique
Hidden Fortress
Il Sorpasso
In Cold Blood
It Happened One Night
Lone Wolf and Cub Box set
A Matter of Life and Death
Night of the Living Dead
Nightmare Alley
On the Waterfront
Red River
Repo Man
Rififi
Seven Samurai
Some Like It Hot (be advised, Kino has this in 4k)
Time Bandits
Yojimbo/Sanjuro Box set

A mix of years, countries and genres, but I've enjoyed them all. One thing about making a list of movies--it never gets smaller. When I started getting blu-rays I figured I'd have 50-75 tops, but the collecting itself revealed a whole wide world of unknown (to me) movies out there.

I'm primarily seeking out the best presentation of a movie, though sometimes Criterion can win you over with their exclusive extras. The Third Man seems likely to see a US release again, though I don't follow close enough to know what company. Outside of the US, Studiocanal has a 4K restoration, so instead of continuing to wait I picked up one of those. Rosemary's Baby and some other Paramount titles were pulled from Criterion's collection last year and Paramount re-released them themselves.

I will skip this Criterion sale and hold out for Criterion's own 24h flash sale later in the year. Want to get those points . And Criterions aren't limited editions anyway, so there's no rush, unlike with Kino Lorber's WSL.
