Well, thinking that now we maybe aren't getting some early big announcement , this time. Guess it'll just be the regular announcements on Monday or so.

Imported 12 criterion titles from Amazon to Europe in the July sale and they have all arrived now.

...Only 2 of them were scratched, and another two with fingerprints on them.

They also shipped a used copy of The Big City, that had two deep punctures on the case, its booklet worn, and had clearly had its plastic rewrapped. Curiously where the deep punctures on the case were, the plastic was not damaged at all...

Contacted customer support, and they, although I clearly described this, claimed with was "damaged by the carrier in transportation" Then they refunded me the film although I clearly stated it was a used copy and wanted a replacement for their error.

So Amazon intentionally rip off the postage services they use when they ship out used damaged copies to customers... What a lovely company.

Fortunately the scratched discs I received seems to work...

Jacque Becker's Casque d'or will possibly get a new release from Criterion, maybe even a 4K release, since Studiocanal are releasing it in France in 4K.

Try contacting Criterion directly. When B&N sold me the Criterion Blu-ray case for The Asphalt Jungle with the Warners DVD in it, Criterion replaced it for me. Had to pay to ship back the disc, but it was only a few bucks.

I've had scratched discs before that resulted in visual artifacts and frozen playback that forced me to jump over a section to be able to complete a film.

Ordering 12 discs and having two of them scratched looking like they were dragged over a table is terrible quality control that shouldn't happen.

Others have noticed the same thing so I thought I would confirm it with my own experience in the thread.

Two nights ago while on Criterion Channel, I saw a remarkable, world-cinema masterpiece for the very first time: Pyaasa aka The Thirst or The Thirsty One (1957) and directed by Guru Dutt, who stars in the film, as well..

Since I do not wish to spoil the viewing experience of anyone who has not yet seen this gem, I will just state that after watching and digesting it, I had a much deeper connection with India's fascination with the musical form.

If you have Criterion Channel and have never seen this film, I recommend allotting two and a half hours of your life to view it. I also recommend watching it while delightfully sipping a glass of pinot noir or any other comforting substance of your choice.

November is usually about the strongest month of the year. We'll see....

At least give us the long mythic "After Hours", please....

Considering they just released The Last Waltz and Raging Bull this year, I would be surprised if they announced another Scorsese film.

I'm just hoping to see another boxset being announced, as it's a bit strange that only 1 boxset has come out this year.
