It was meh imo. Hits you over the head with it's message, and it loses steam about halfway through. However, I did like Woody Harrelson and Zlatko Burić, very fun performances. First half I enjoyed, second I didn't basically without going into spoilers.

Doesn't seem like it will have HDR, Parasite also only had HDR and no Dolby Vision. I hope NEON doesn't cheap out with Oldboy for HDR only or no HDR because the Arrow release has it in delicious Dolby Vision.

I enjoyed the hell out of Triangle of Sadness in theaters, but that was definitely enhanced my audience being so into it,. There are parts we were just dying laughing, and it was just super entertaining (albeit there is some real gross-out humor here). It seems to be a polarizing film, and the way it's broken up, some parts are definitely better than others, with many finding the last act to be its weakest. I'm not sure how it would hold up on repeat viewing, and I probably wouldn't consider it an easy blind-buy either, but it's worth seeing at least once I'd say.

Very excited to see Small Axe getting a release! Those were absolutely some of the best films of 2020 and I'd been hoping Criterion had a set like this in the works.

I have the BFI UHD but not the Bergman box. Even so, for my sake, I'm presuming all the Criterion-exclusive supplements for The Seventh Seal are still accessible on the Criterion Channel.

The April Criterion announcements are... well... not making me excited.

A couple of upgrades of two great movies are nice.

But even the Steve McQueen box set is not elevating my blood pressure.

Therefore, I have to say, for the first time ever in Criterion announcement history: This is NOT a solid month.

Criterion seems to be continuing through the Terry Gilliam catalogue. If true, that is welcome news. They already have Jabberwocky, Brazil, Time Bandits, & Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Most recently, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and now Fisher King.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus & The Man Who Killed Don Quixote haven't seen a 4K UHD release yet. Arrow has 12 Monkeys.

I haven't watched The Brothers Grimm yet. Is this a recommended film?

Especially since The Seventh Seal already has a perfectly good and perfectly affordable UHD presentation with the Criterion-exclusive supplements readily available across multiple platforms.

That said, The Seventh Seal announcement is still welcome in one way since it implies there'll be more of a precedent for competing UHD editions of "arthouse" films, meaning going forward I may not have to rely so much on Criterion and their scratch-prone UHDs for 4K presentations of many of my favorite films, assuming films like L'Avventura and several Fellinis get 4K'd at some point.

As far as I'm concerned, no. Gilliam hated the movie and only did it for the money. Matt Damon is Matt Damon. Heath Ledger is quite good in it but when had he ever given a bad performance?

You misunderstand, I have a problem with people who complain about Criterion being "woke" which to them typically is "I don't like them releasing black films." I totally support them diversifying as I've made clear.

I have to agree. For the most part it seems that they’ve moved on from upgrading DVDs from their library and that the priority upgrades now are from Blu-ray to UHD.

I will say, April is a little disappointing because of only two new additions.

Though I'm not really into 4K, the release of The Seventh Seal on 4K I knew was inevitable as one of their flagship films. Hopefully it will get people to stop complaining about Criterion being behind because 4K's of their titles have been released in other regions.

The Criterion will have better subtitles than the BFI. Can't remember what exactly the problems with the BFI were. Text too close to bottom, poorer translations, typos (?), font too tall/squished...

I really hope this isn't the case, it seemed they were still doing it well into last year with long awaited upgrades for several releases.

I remember looking over the threads, the comments sections for posts of new Criterion releases seeing people complain "when is Criterion going 4K?" and I honestly just wanted them to keep upgrading DVD only titles, especially Janus ones and I was afraid they'd stop doing that if they went 4K and started making half their new releases 4K re-releases.

Then again, the Lars Von Trier set out today is an upgrade of two previously stand alone DVD titles they released years ago.

I was hoping that Criterion would stay out of the 4K market entirely because they have such a huge backlog of films awaiting their blu-ray debuts (and in some cases films that were never even afforded DVD releases). With so few release slots a month and 4K retreads taking one or two of them, those many titles awaiting upgrades DVD to blu just get keeping pushed back.

Just got my Lars von Trier Europe trilogy set delivered.

It's three slim digipaks enclosed in a slipcase. On one hand I like that it's a compact package that takes up less space on the shelves. OTOH, the quality of the box is very poor. The thinnest cardboard I've ever seen, almost paper thin. This will likely fall apart in a short period of time and I'll probably just end up throwing the box away and placing the individual digipaks on the shelf. Just a minor nitpick, actually - I'm very excited that two of these films have finally made the jump to 1080p HD. Not sure about the second film, Epidemic's home video history but I'm happy to discover it.
