Wow...really jacobserver? Sorry...I would have mentioned that in the MoC thread if I had known. Yeah...DO NOT UPDATE FW!

I purposely have my Momitsu disconnected from my home network, so that the player doesn't try to update the FW automatically.

Boy...that would REALLY suck!

BTW...same here...I only use the Momitsu for playing region B BDs.

Well...I broke out the umbrella, so I don't think it will rain.

I just ordered the BFI Tokyo Story, so I half expect to see it get announced as well.

The only consolation (hopefully) is that the BFI version comes with an additional Ozu film..."Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family" (Todake no kyodai) (1941, 100 mins, DVD only).

The comparison to Sunrise/Sunset is a very poor one though, imo, in that the similarity is only due to it being one nite that the two individuals get to spend together. Sunrise/Sunset offers no real insight into the characters and at least for me, is not emotionally engaging at all. Room in Rome I found to be an extremely moving film, with Elena Anaya's performance to be one of the most vulnerable and authentic I've seen in quite some time.
It still reminded me of Before Sunset even if they are not exactly the same. They both are about two people who spend one day together and spend most of the film talking, and you wonder if they will become a couple or ultimately go their separate ways. What a person finds emotionally engaging is subjective. I didn't really connect with the characters in Room in Rome, but I enjoyed the visuals. I got a little irritated with the same "Loving Strangers" song being played over and over, however. I've only watched it once so maybe I need to see it again.

Just because it's on comcast on demand doesn't mean it will get a domestic release. Sin Nombre still doesn't have a domestic release despite being the Sundance darling of last year and being available on demand. Let's just cross our fingers
That's true. I assumed it meant a U.S. company at least had the rights to release it, but it's possible that it could only get a DVD release.

I ended up finding a separate shelf for my Criterion blu's, ran out of space on my two other shelves.

Criterion should release a blu-ray version of The Last Temptation of Christ. It´s a very good movie and I think it deserves a good release in high-def.

I wonder when it´s going to happen? Next year?

Just one of the many Scorsese masterpieces that need some kind of Blu-ray treatment.

I already have the DVD version. I really hope Criterion will also include a new documentary. This movie deserves it.

I received the Criterion Gift Guide yesterday.

Seems they're given away custom drawings (purchases over $150) from Jason Polan.

Yeah...Tim Carey is a pretty intense guy...but supposedly very difficult to work with. He was "fired" before "Paths" was completed, so a "double" was used in a few scenes, where there is no dialogue, but a shot of his character was needed.

Carey kept busy after "Paths" and appears in "Head" in another of his "off the wall" character roles.
Excellent, thanks for the insight. I had no idea of the turmoil on the set; I'll definitely have to watch this with the commentary now. Not sure I am too interested in that Monkees movie though, even though I do love Carey...

Is anyone suffering from Criterion sale withdrawal? When I go into B&N now, I'm a little disappointed that the sale is over. I can't quite bring myself to pay full price now for Criterion titles, even though I would like to upgrade my DVD copy of Videodrome.

However, thanks to the sale, I picked up Modern Times, which was a great surprise. I never would have bought it if it hadn't been on sale, and I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. I guess I didn't really think a nearly 80-year-old (mostly) silent film would be that entertaining, but I was wrong. Now I want to check out more of Chaplin's films. I'm even tempted to order the U.K. release of City Lights.

I also watched The Thin Red Line with a couple of friends. They didn't care for it (one wanted to stop it halfway through). It's certainly a beautiful film to look at, but I have mixed feelings about the movie. I think I will hang on to the BD in case I want to revisit it later.

Two words for ya: Buster Keaton.

You make this board so enjoyable to post/read.

And yes, that is every Criterion blu ray so far.

I'm one of those people.

Certainly not from B&N. I've been patiently waiting for almost a month to get my last package from them. The first one got lost, so they had to resend it. Apparently, they figured to send it the slow route again.

Buy some Buster Keaton from Kino.

Yeah, I can see wanting to shut off The Thin Red Line. It is a Malick film. I'm still not sure I like Days of Heaven or hate it. I've been leaning towards just disliking it.

is there any particular reason a bunch of Criterions are around $23 on amazon. i thought they were always around $35-$40?

what's odd is Yojimbo and whatever comes with it is $37.99 on blu, but $38.99 on dvd
and same goes for Seven Samurai, a few bucks cheaper on blu than dvd

not all Criterions are around $25, but the 10-15 i could remember the names of were.

I do try.

If Trekkie had posed a more sensible question to you, then I wouldn't have felt the need for suck a sarcastic quip. So, we should really all be thanking Trekkies for spurring my sarcasm.

On top of all that, you and I might actually get along in the "real" life, too.
