Yes it is, and I’m confident Criterion must be preparing a 4k of Brazil for sometime soon.

I agree with your post on the previous page too.

Here’s hoping Criterion hears us out and either starts some barebone box releases to catch up, or at least starts giving us more Japanese titles again!

Also most definitely in need: Kurosawa box set. Come on criterion make it happen (and soonish please!).

Domestically, it's Universal, but it was a Fox title internationally. I know that caused problems with Arrow's release of Legend.

I never got around to importing the SC release of The Servant. I don't need it in 4K, but I see the Criterion AR is 1.66, whereas the SC also includes a version in 1.75. Any significance to that?

Incredibly strong May 2023 release schedule for Criterion. I am confident the Pasolini 101 box will be absolutely incredible! Really looking forward to this box set. I have already seen more MoC "Hawks and Sparrows" blu-rays being dumped on eBay than ever before. Some of the sellers still demand inflated prices. Ridiculous! It is shameful how some collectors are trying to rip off their fellow hobbyists - why collect in the first place if your budget is so tight that you have to demand some extra $50 from people? Oh well, I guess some will disagree with me here.
Moving back to the topic of Criterion: Rules of the Game 4K - Yay! Since the French release I had hoped that Criterion would be picking this up for a UHD. And I am very pleased they actually did, as opposed to the BFI who chickened out and will only be releasing a regular blu of this film. I strongly hope though that Criterion will be able to beat the French UHD's compression, which was subpar. We will also be getting a Time Bandits 4K (very cool!) and a regular blu of The Servant (a 4K would have been preferable, but the region B release with Fidelity in Motion encode would probably not have been bested anyways). The Barry Jenkins is one I might check out as well at some point - very likable guy and filmmaker. So all in all a strong month for the label (though I, like many others, hope there will be more Japanese releases again eventually).

This thread turned into an anime convention so gradually that I didn't even notice.

Oh man, I find it hard to believe that anyone can come to the forum and not be overcome with sarcasm and snark on reading some of the comments. ‘Bottom of the barrel’ just seems a bit overwhelming and requires snark antidote rather than the huzzahs from the peanut gallery. Not sorry by any stretch.

Well, again, I'm very happy about the Pasolini set?

There will always be months certain people are disappointed and certain people are thrilled (I found April's slate disappointing, for example, but love June). There will always be titles someone considers a waste of a month's slot, that others think is the best one, yet. On this forum, I've pretty much started not even saying what titles I don't like, and just being positive about the ones I do, LOL.

Anyway, we should all just learn to agree to disagree without all the harsh judgments. We can disagree, but not be so mean about it.

This is just movie-lovers-hobby-entertainment-collecting-stuff, not curing cancer.

My unsolicited two cents.

What’s up with it being all the ones except the one they know most people want the most? Brazil should have been first.

The reaction to the French UHD of Rules of the Game was largely positive, as far as I can recall.

If I have something of value, why am I obligated to sell it for less?

The June releases are listed with their full MSRP for pre-order on amazon.
Is this normal nowadays?

I'd put money on Salo getting an upgrade before the year is out and maybe even Trilogy of Life.

Seriously though I'll take 4K upgrades for all of his movies.
It seems odd that Sony has not released it in 4k already. They love this film. So perhaps Criterion is going to end up releasing it in UHD.

I'm sorry, but anyone who actually thins this is one of Criterion's worst years, or even that this is somehow not an incredibly strong year already is seriously deluded and have their tastes so narrowly constricted that it blocks off all senses of actual reality.

I agree. I'm not sure what people are expecting. Criterion is doing what they have always done since the days of Laserdisc. They have not strayed away from who they have always been.

Kind of and kind of not. There are titles in their laserdisc/DVD library in desperate need of a recan/re-release, as we get the 4th iteration of Time Bandits. They have been doing a lot of recently released (in terms of the formats) blus to 4K, with little to nothing added, no HDR/Vision pass, some cases no new extras. It's hard to get excited when they announce "Hey, that title you bought a few years ago, here it is again, with nothing new except higher resolution!"

If that's how they're going to handle the format, I'd rather have them stick to blu-ray and upgrade ancient titles/add more new titles.

Hell, Arrow is doing a better job of being Criterion than Criterion is.

The quality of titles that Arrow releases is mostly awful. So much garbage.
