Or releases of Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch.

I know the September just got announced (stoked for more Orson) but man oh man do I want those Wes Anderson films to keep being released by Criterion.

It's a good thing I drag my feet on Studio Canal UHDs. Now I have time to choose.

I shall balance the merits of the two releases of The Trial.

I'm kind of hoping the Criterion release beats the Studiocanal release, because I hate importing.

Criterion BDs cannot be played while the player is off, no.

I have no idea what you're asking.

What a month of releases/upgrades! Absolutely stunned about La Bamba. Genuinely one of my favorite films since I was kid. Very happy to see it get a worthwhile release. Also stoked that I put off buying the Princess Bride every sale so that I can now scoop the 4K. My Walkabout blu is a disc rot victim that i've been too lazy to ship back so happy to just upgrade, especially with a film as stunning as it is.

If you mean do they have memory where you can pick up where you left off, then yes, they do.

When you play a Criterion BD and then you pause it or turn it off, mid-film, and the player powers off, when you turn on the player and restart the BD, it will ask you, onscreen, 'Resume Playback? Yes No' And if you click No, you'll go to the main menu, and if you click Yes, it will resume the film right where you left off.

Now that you mention it, maybe I should hold out for a UK UHD of Walkabout instead of importing.

Great month of releases, but I'm not 4K, and have every single one of these titles on blu ray, already.

I shall have to decide which ones merit a double dip.

For anyone else, I highly recommend all of these.

Ashamed to say I still haven't seen The Trial; Walkabout UHD is a mildly tempting announcement (not a huge fan of it). I can see why movie lovers might be excited about the line-up, though.

Moonage Daydream is very cool, saw it in IMAX and will pick it up for sure. La Bamba I'll get also.

Not ready yet to start upgrading all of my great-looking Criterion blu rays to 4K versions (and not sure I ever will honestly), unless it's like a top-50 favorite of mine or something, so skipping Princess Bride and Walkabout. To me, 4K announcements of previously released Criterion blus are pretty much wasted spots. Good for everyone who wanted them though

Excited for The Trial and Walkabout and will also eventually grab the others.

I remember seeing "La Bamba" in the theater in 1987, and there wasn't a single dry eye in the house.

Such a good film. Love that music.

All these titles are utterly fantastic, but I was most surprised to see "La Bamba" among the announcements.

I'll echo what others have said. This is a good Criterion month.

I personally am only looking into getting The Trial and Walkabout, the others are cool titles.

I really wanted to like Moonage Daydream. I dig Bowie, but it was just not for me.

Super bummed that the only title not getting the 4K treatment is La Bamba.

Walkabout is enough of a visual spectacle I wouldn’t mind upgrading, but is it a release worth putting up with Mexican plant shenanigans for (especially when I’d have to import)…Decisions :sigh:

P.S. I’m making an exception for Breathless on this front. I’ll get around to ordering the Curzon release of The Three Colors Trilogy when I’m in the mood to spend the 80 quid or when it gets a price drop.

Well for titles with US UHDs from Lionsgate like Contempt, Ran, and The Man Who Fell to Earth I’d say competing Criterion editions are unlikely.

From what I’ve heard, the Ran UHD isn’t great but acceptable while The Man Who Fell to Earth’s word of mouth seems to be generally positive. I haven’t yet heard any word on Contempt, which is odd considering the disc hit shelves in France a few days ago. I already got a copy but haven’t opened it yet.

.... I'd still buy it.
Guess they already announced so I may have missed the speculation phase on commenting, but I have the German 4K release of Chungking Express and it looks great and healthily filmic. I think it should be a good upgrade if we ever get it. Maybe next year for the 30th anniversary? Hopefully paired with a release of WKW's Ashes of Time too, which is also celebrating its 30th!
