Obviously a huge month for me with my favorite Ozu film, and most-wished for upgrade coming. BUt also Anatomy of a Fall and Peeping Tom 4K, plus the Sembene set are all great. Not familiar with Girlfight.

I'm impressed with the "turnaround" time on adding Anatomy of a Fall to the Collection. Only four months between theatrical release and an announcement of a forthcoming release. I really wish it was in 4K, though. Don't get me wrong - I'm glad to be getting it at all, but I just never understand why we don't get a 4K option with a brand-new film.

I haven't seen Floating Weeds but based on the two other Uzo films I've seen I'd be interested in picking this one up.

Though I can't help feeling like I do about Kursoswa films on Blu: do I pick this up now, or hold out for a possible, inevitable 4K release?

The takeaway for me for the May releases are the solid upgraded titles (Powell and Ozu). Otherwise nothing for me for this month.

Yes, the 4K restoration for Floating Weeds is beautiful. I've seen it twice in theaters now (2019, and last year as part of the Ozu 120 retrospective) and it's a night and day improvement over Criterion's DVD, and Eureka's BD.

Yeah. Poor Things, which had perhaps the best production design of any movie in 2023, is only being released in standard Blu-ray on these shores. That greatly disappoints me.

I just bought the Studio Canal Peeping Tom. Really solid lineup all around. The Ousmane Sembène set and the Ozu upgrade are much appreciated. Anatomy of a Fall was all but a given and I've heard good things about Girlfight.

I really like this month.

I just went looking for more Sembene on disc recently (I have "Black Girl" and "Mandabi" from Criterion), and didn't find much. Then, like a week later, here's this set! Very happy, indeed.

Yeah, a solid month. I don't think there is a single 4K upgrade and all the titles are new to HD in the US.

Floating Weeds I'll be 100% buying. Anatomy of a Fall and Peeping Tom I'll probably eventually get, maybe during a sale.

Opened the email, expecting not to see a Japanese film like usual… and then I’m hit with Floating Weeds! So excited. One of my most wanted titles, especially as this has no English friendly version available (I’m aware of the MoC Blu, however this is the new restoration that was released in Japan without English subtitles). Can’t wait for April!

I've been meaning to buy all of the Ozu Criterion releases, but never got around to it, but now with Floating Weeds coming I'll probably do it this summer as I only have Tokyo Story right now.
