  3. The Atomic Submarine (1959)
  4. Goke Body Snatcher From Hell (1968)

  10. Corridors Of Blood (1958)
  11. The Haunted Strangler (1958)
  12. The Living Skeleton (1968)
It's very unlikely any of these will actually happen but still, it's worth mentioning at least because you never quite know who's paying attention around here...
I want most of those as well, but especially Goke, and Jigoku. Jigoku is less likely as I believe that's with Toho now, but with Shochiku playing very friendly where even small labels releasing their films, I don't think Criterion would have to put up much of a fight to release Goke. It's a pretty iconic scifi horor film, so you know it would sell well.

I'm hoping we get a lease ONE Japanese horror film for October. My main hope is Demon Pond, but would be really happy with Goke or something similar.

Is it possible we might one day get any of Demy's movies in 4K?

Yes. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg has a new 4K restoration that played at Cannes this year. I suspect Criterion will upgrade it sometime in the next 1-2 years.

Why did they do a 6.6K restoration for Burden of Dreams? That's overkill for 16mm. Is the final output 6.6K or did they do 6.6K scans for a 4K output?

I emailed Criterion about Like Someone in Love being listed as DVD only on their website.

I was told that they're in the process of reissuing it in a standard Blu-ray edition. It should be available later this year.

Breaking the Waves is now listed as OOP.

The Long Good Friday page has been updated for BD (and presumably 4K) announcement.

Repo Man page has been updated for 4K announcement.

Guesses:

25th Hour 4K, BD
The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick BD
The Long Good Friday 4K, BD
Look Back in Anger BD
Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Project 5
Repo Man 4K
A Woman of Paris BD

My most sought after 4K upgrade would be the Jacques Tati set.

Yep, very likely today. Also The Long Good Friday has to be announced on a Friday, there's an unwritten rule somewhere

Criterion releasing sloppy seconds as usual? I know different territories, but the Arrow versions are almost always better in every possibly way.

I agree it’s frustrating they often release 4Ks after other territories have already handled it, but Fear and Loathing at least has a different grade, some are equivalent some are inferior but I’m sure there are some that are improvements, and many UHDs have only been released by Criterion. I’m planning to get the Arrow but at least with being a DVD upgrade it will hopefully add something beyond just replicating the same extras.

Not everybody is in a position to import. And an included blu-ray is still a selling point for those who haven't upgraded yet and want to future proof. Why wouldn't a company introduce a 4K to their market?

I never see the inverse of this.

Hoping Criterion gets Alice X. Zhang to do the cover art for Long Good Friday, like she did for Mona Lisa. i was the one that let Criterion know about her work, and she did an amazing job with that cover (and The Heroic Trio / Executioners release too).

I'm going to be so excited if we get that today I really thought like F&L we'd be waiting a long time for all the ones Arrow already did a scan of like this, Naked Lunch, Withnail etc.

2 bee faire, importing is literally as easy as clicking a button these days from many of the same sources Criterion discs are bought from. They're even making their way onto Amazon these days. Maybe in the past yeah but now "imports" really have no barriers aside from some costing more and those shipping fees. I love my $30 imports from Orbit.

I purchased The Long Good Friday 4K from OrbitDVD for cheaper than Criterion will charge for their 4K by launch (B&N Sale aside).

It has a slipcover, art cards, a poster, a booklet, high quality case, reversible art with "poster" art, and most likely better encode/transfer.

Every single person on the planet with an internet connection is "in a position to import".

The issue is, most of the people buying these titles are well versed in boutique releases. By releasing a title someone else already did, you risk the market already being cannibalized.
