I hope tomorrow the 4K upgrades are limited big time. Hopefully it's some new to HD titles in 4K and Blu-ray.
I was going to guess Misumi's Sword Trilogy for tomorrow, but guessing it will come later. Here is hoping for Cyrano! |

I'd love some new titles, and not just the same old predictable 4K upgrades.

I'm with you! I want Criterion to release Top Hat (and it better be on 4K, especially if the rumor about the OCN surviving is true). I want The Gay Divorcee (and, quite frankly, all the other Astaire/Rogers films) as well, although if they are to be Blu-ray only, I'd rather WAC release them.

I think they'll want romantic/relationship films for Valentine's Day and at least one release that focuses on black Americans for black history month. So here are my predictions...
'Bird' (1988) 'Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' 'Chungking Express' 4K standalone 'Before Sunrise' trilogy 4K upgrade 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' 4K upgrade |

No one label in the entire world has as many titles in the storage as Criterion does. There is a good chance either we'll be long dead or Criterion folds before we get some of the titles we really want. |

November is always going to be full of upgrades and big titles because of the B&N sale and December has always been a slow month, so the lack of new titles shouldn't come as a surprise.
The move to releasing most titles on 4K has undoubtedly caused a shift in what is getting released, but that is what it is. Criterion has been less re-release crazy than Scream/Shout and Arrow. |

I'd rather see labels with smaller backlog of titles release the studio upgrade titles on 4K. Criterion just has simply too much to waste time on titles that could be coming from elsewhere. Other labels at this point have better features, encodes, etc than Criterion now, the only thing they don't have is the same resources and the thousand of so titles Criterion got the rights to bloat up their streaming channel versus putting priority on the physical market. Again, I'd rather they focus less on the studio stuff that could be released by anyone versus the titles they have that CAN'T be released by anyone as only they have the rights to those titles. |
