They have the rights to Fall Guy, but it looks like a SD master on the channel, so it might not have an HD transfer.

Fall Guy does have a HD transfer, streaming currently on Amazon Prime Japan.

It will most likely be in February. They're never confirmed. Just teased the day before. Going by history, it will be mid-late February. Usually timed with an anticipated/presumably popular release.

For what it's worth, these are the previous Feb-Mar 24-Hour Flash Sale dates for the last five years and the titles released on those dates.

2024 Feb 27 (Tue): The Roaring Twenties 4K
2023 Mar 21 (Tue): Inland Empire
2022 Mar 8 (Tue): Adoption
2021 Feb 23 (Tue): Man Push Cart, Chop Shop, Smooth Talk
2020 Feb 25 (Tue): Three Fantastic Journeys by Karel Zeman, Paris Is Burning

There's so many popular titles coming out nearly every week so it's hard to figure out what day Criterion would be looking at for the sale.

Cronos / Performance - Feb 25th
Wages of Fear - March 4th
Thief - March 11th
Godzilla vs Biollante / A Woman of Paris - March 18th
Night Moves / Choose Me - March 25th

I think March 4th or 11th are the most probable there. If it's the latter it'll include the bulk of the notable titles.

I think there have been enough Toho UHD releases since November to spot a release pattern of every other month:

11/2024
Godzilla
Seven Samurai

1/2025
Yojimbo/Sanjuro

3/2025
Godzilla vs Biollante

I believe we'll see another release (or two) for May. Conventional wisdom with UHD tells me to look at the Kurosawa titles already released by Toho on UHD in Japan:

Stray Dog
Ikiru
Throne of Blood
High and Low
Kagemusha

I think all the titles above will eventually receive UHDs. Stray Dog is the most long overdue!

Criterion may have come out with a bang with Seven Samurai and Yojimbo/Sanjuro (of which at least the former is arguably noticeably better on their release), but now BFI is besting Criterion big time with the the sheer number of Kurosawa releases. They did Stray Dog, and new scan of High and Low, and now UHD for Throne of Blood.

Criterion should get back on schedule with the Kurosawa releases or they'll be losing sales to BFI.

How does it look? Is it relatively new or DVD era HD transfer?

Looks ok, not a new master for sure and probably DVD era master. If you have seen Radiance's Sting of Death Blu-ray, it reminds me of that a bit.

How does the 4K Godzilla compare to the Blu-Ray?

I have my order all set, but I might add that, depending on whether it's a must-have upgrade.

Rewatched the 1959 Imitation of Life for the first time in a while for Lana Turner's birthday. What a wonderful movie!

It's absence in the collection is definitely notable, and I'd just love for there to be a 4K!

It's why the Universal disc is superior to the Criterion. Similar transfer of the 30s version and the 50s version.

It’s literally been a month since Yojimbo 4k came out. I get wanting a faster pace, but also, come on. They’re clearly getting them out in fairly quick order as Toho gets the transfers to them.

(Though I suspect High and Low will be timed here in the states to coincide with the new Spike Lee/Denzel version, which would be very smart marketing.)

I'm hoping for Feb 18th to get Crossing Delancey, Drugstore Cowboy and Last Summer.

I would love to order more from the Criterion website in order to accumulate points, but the $75.00 threshold for free shipping really sucks. When it was $50.00 I would pre-order a couple of discs from them directly when I was able to. Besides, a day or a week later the titles I would purchase could end up being 50% off.

Yeah, I've never been tempted to buy anything from Criterion unless it's during a 50% off sale. I agree about the higher free shipping threshold. If I didn't have a few $10 codes saved up, I probably wouldn't have made an order during their last sale. I'm patient enough to wait till July's B&N sale.

I don't anymore. But a decade ago or so when I was earning a better living I would order a couple of titles from them directly. I would get free shipping and not get charged for sales tax for some reason, the final cost I would get charged would be a around $63.00. Pre-orders I would end up getting usually the Saturday before street date, and I would collect points to get a $50 certificate. But those days are gone. I just looked to see if I pre-ordered Anora and Basquiat and I am still $5.00 short to get free shipping.
