Okay, question: has Criterion ever done a commentary over the music-only track before? Sort of fascinated by that on the Pee-Wee listing.

Also, so happy about I Know Where I'm Going arriving at last. I know a lot of people here were despairing that it - or any other Powell & Pressburger films - were ever going to show up again.

Never would i have imagined Tim Burton's best film getting the label treatment. But that so rad. I'm usually against people saying popular movies that don't need the C logo in the corner. But this is a film that I fully support having it.

Already have Le retour à la raison, though I've not got around to watching it yet, on this Kino set:

Last month you got a few right and I asked if you could predict I Know Where Going next month. You said you'd see what you could do.

You're a wizard, yo!!

I'm so excited for Pee-wee! That will probably be the first title I buy without waiting for a sale since Eraserhead.

This is a surprisingly robust announcement for December - usually December is pretty slow with 3-4 titles. 6 excellent titles is a nice little surprise on my end! Makes me very excited for 2026!

I absolutely LOVE His Girl Friday but would have rathered an announcement for Ball of Fire. The missing Hawks film even from blu-ray.

Not the 1940s British film directed by a notable director and starring a woman nominated for an Oscar for her performance in a late 1930s movie that I was dying for, but I'll happily take this one!

I Know Where I'm Going and His Girl Friday for me.

So pleased with more P&P on 4k.

I love BALL OF FIRE too, but unfortunately it's from Samuel Goldwyn Productions. Pretty much all the Samuel Goldwyn films--he had a terrific batting average over 36 years of independent productions, 1923-1959--remain owned by and controlled by the Goldwyn estate. So it's up to the estate to pay for, or arrange grant funding, for any restorations and re-releases.

There is no publicly known reason why the successor Goldwyns are so reluctant to allow that work. There's dozens of films in that library, many are very good. Six of them are in the National Film Registry, little films like THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, THE PRIDE OF THE YANKEES, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, DODSWORTH, and BALL OF FIRE. But for many years they've been languishing in SD transfers. Not sure how many have even received HD upgrades, but certainly no 4Ks. It's a damn shame, but it's not Criterion's fault.

The film elements for Goldwyn have been on deposit at The Academy Film Archive since 1979, so hopefully they're in good shape. But the Goldwyn owners need to agree to access and restorations, and so far they haven't been convinced.

I'd love the Danny Kaye Goldwyn films, especially The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Wonder Man and The Kid From Brooklyn to be released but I know it's just a dream for now.

I'm still hoping the 2013 Ben Stiller remake could eventually be added to the Criterion Collection one day.
