It was my love of World on a Wire that got me to purchase and watch Berlin Alexanderplatz during the last sale. You might want to consider this, if you like what you've seen of Fassbinder so far.

Help me P@t, you're my only hope.
Speaking of Criterion's relationship with Disney, I submitted a suggestion to Criterion a few weeks ago to add Song of the South to the collection. It would be perfect for them since Disney won't release it. Not holding my breath, though.

Does anyone have the contact email address of "Janet" at Criterion? Trying to get a hold of someone concerning a replacement disc and Jon has been doing a great job at ignoring my emails.

Australia Card Charged Before Order Is Shipped Despite Being Told...

Lokipei -

"As I had moved recently I updated my default address to new address and sudmitted the order. Then noticed on the comfirmation email they had my old address still, so rather than giving you the option to just change the address, had to cancel each item one by one.
Once had email confirming they were canceled and assured my credit card was not charged, I place the same order again, but was declined. I checked my Card (It is a debit card, so I just transfer money when I need to use it) and they had charged the whole order already! (about $200). Sent them an email saying WTF is going on.
"

I'm in the same boat as you, charged my card already and the order won't be shipped until 4th December despite being told that card won't be charged until the items are ready for shipping. It really sucks.

Or am I talking out of my arse?

be nice

they automatically put holds on your credit/debit cards for the amount, those will usuallly fall off after a couple days till your item is being prepped for shipping. that's why I ALWAYS use a CC

Both are great, but Rosemary's Baby is better IMO.

In The Mood For Love look's amazing in my opinion, well worth it even more so getting it on a sale price

I have the Jean Gremillion set I want but ordering it alone kill's the idea since they will get me on shipping anyway. I am looking to see if I could not find a couple of other things to go with it but Les Visiteurs Du Soir and Les Enfants Du Paradis reviews make me wonder if I really should bother with them

I tried watching it last night and for the second time I just couldn't get more than 20-30 minutes into it. I don't really dislike it exactly but it's not quite what I've been looking for at that time
[Show spoiler](I got hung up at the same point both times too - the guy getting the bucket stuck on his ass - it's funny in weird Monkees video sort of way but just not what I'm looking for)
. Third time might be the charm though because my expectations will definitely be more in line with what's really there.

And to answer your second question, I suspect I will have better luck getting all the way through Rosemary's Baby later this evening.

And some combination of The Devil's Advocate (guilty pleasure to be sure), The Bride of Frankenstein, The Birds and maybe a few Dark Shadows episodes.

Oh, and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown...that's a must...

I agree you have to be in a certain mind frame to watch and enjoy Hausu, and it is essentially the Monkees on brown acid. I won't be getting Rosemary's Baby for at least a month, so I'll watch Hausu, Monstrous Monkee Mash, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and potentially Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School. I'm ashamed to say I don't own it's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown.

The Game is minor Fincher and still fun, but Rosemary's Baby is a classic, and deservedly so. Probably one of the most finely crafted and meticulously directed films ever made.

I had never heard of the movie before Criterion, but I was wise enough to watch the documentary first beforehand.
And when they mentioned that the director was a celebrity for directing Japanese TV commercials, that was my "OHHhhh! " moment--Of course, those three simple words would explain a LOT of the movie.

(Especially for those of us who used to get our anime untranslated on imported VHS, and actually used to watch those wacky hyper-cutesy sponsor messages during the breaks. And to think, the Simpsons thought themselves so clever...)

I had too much work to sit down with the annual traditional "Something Wicked This Way Comes" ( ), and found I wasn't in the mood, but at least had enough attention for Great Pumpkin, and finally on Blu this year. At least that's some tradition.
Maybe next year I'll spring for that Warner Archive disk of "Ray Bradbury's 'The Halloween Tree'."

(Never occurred to me to watch Monkee Mash--as I never liked Bob Rafelson's backhandedly self-contemptuous gagged-up/fourth-wall episodes compared to Jim Frawley's more easygoing ones--and darn, still haven't gotten a copy of Ghoul School yet, although it's surprisingly more watchable than "SD&Reluctant Werewolf".)

Sorry Jess...I hadn't even thought about the storm affecting you so far north and further east than me...but I'm not surprised. Sorry to hear about that woman in Toronto, but glad you didn't get hit bad. I'm surprised that I dropped very few branches...but I was mostly worried about my 100 foot pine tree not over, but about 15-25 feet from my house. I had worried about heavy rain softening the ground and my pines shallow roots doing me in. And we didn't lose power at all, which really surprised me.

I hope most of the others here faired as well.

I had a feeling you'd chime in Ronin. I'm not as big a fan of those "type" of films...but they are running them all on Hulu, so I'll check them out before the end of the sale and dwell on it.

Thanks for helping me drain my wallet! I couldn't have done it without you.

I did make it to the store today and picked up a deuce. Trying to keep it lean if I can.
