They do also have Ôshima's Night and Fog In Japan and The Sun's Burial. Maybe some sort of postwar-youth-themed Eclipse set?
They have more than that. Boy is part of the ATG Oshima films. Cruel Story of Youth and the others on Hulu are part of a Youth Trilogy (actually 4 films, but it's usually called trilogy), so those should be packaged together.

Boy, along with Death By Hanging and others will prob receive individual releases, a mainline boxset, or Eclipse (which will be stupid, seeing the mainline releases they have been throwing out there).

And since the art on pulp novels varied, yes it DOES resemble pulp novels A simple google search confirms that.

Hopefully a few I'd the non-Oshima ATG titles get mainline releases as well. Pastoral: To Die in the Country would be to die for on Blu.

Looking For Mr. Goodbar is about a schoolteacher who, after a bad relationship, falls into a habit of frequenting bars looking for men, steadily becomes more promiscuous, and even starts to use drugs. If this is, indeed, the movie, then it will be another perfect "This will not end well." offering from Criterion, since Criterion excels at "This will not end well." flicks.
It also has a famous Edgy/Obscure Cult Director (Richard Brooks), is decade-iconic (not a famous 70's movie, but "historically" 70's and the book was a decade icon), has been missing from home video for years, and has never appeared on DVD.
Does anyone have a remotely possible reason left why this WON'T be Criterion?

I've postponed viewing Eraserhead all these years, but as a Lynch fan I can't wait to see it for the first time on Criterion.

If Barton Fink really makes the line-up as some have been saying, I am going to be sad that I just bought the UK edition. But very happy to see it get some deserved recognition by joining the collection. In fact, I submitted it to them as a wild & baseless request just last year (along with Hudsucker, now coming via WAC so w00t... and Day of the Locust -- any chance they could someday swing that one???)...

Eraserhead is an excellent film, and undoubtedly deserves the Criterion treatment.

Any other Lynch fans feel more leery that other titles (Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Wild At Heart, etc) will never see a U.S. release? I was really hoping they would at least tease Mulholland Drive in addition to Eraserhead.

This.

As for technical execution it strikes me more as a bad coloring book/paint-by-numbers. I understand that pulp covers were technically simple but this one is just a little too simple.

On a substantive level, I can understand the thinking behind going 'pulp romance cover' rather than a darker, edgier 'pulp mystery cover' but I really don't think the joke/juxtaposition landed very well.

Well that's good it's not an exact copy, since its not a 50s pulp book. It's a film form the 70s. And it definitely exudes the same "idea" of a 50s pulp novel, whether or not you think it's executed well or not.

Considering it's the first thing that most people thought of when seeing it, I think it got its point across. But hey, people on forums know better, I guess.

I think we'll see all of his movies on Blu-Ray eventually (don't know about Twin Peaks or Inland Empire though). If Eraserhead gets released, then I don't see why the others wouldn't be. I do worry about not getting Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me on BD, though I'm sure we'll see it eventually.

I guess I just didn't get Eraserhead. Because I hated it. Almost unwatchable. To each their own. But I felt like I could have made the film on the weekend in my spare time. I'm sure most will disagree with me. It's one of those films I feel like I'm suppose to like because everyone else does but i just don't. :/

It was actually made over an arduous 5 year period!

I definitely understand where you are coming from when you say that. To me Lynch has always been very polarizing, and is simply not for everyone.

As far as the 2012 releases go, I've bought:

January:
Gojira

February:
Anatomy of a Murder
Three Outlaw Samurai
World on a Wire

March:
Letter Never Sent

April:
Late Spring
The Organizer

May:
Summer Interlude
Summer with Monika

June:
The 39 Steps
Harold and Maude
Samurai Trilogy
Shallow Grave

July:
Le Havre

August:
La Promesse
Quadrophenia
Rosetta

September:
Children of Paradise
Eating Raoul
Les Visiteurs de soir

October:
In the Mood for Love
Rosemary's Baby

November:
Rashomon
Week End

December:
Brazil
Purple Noon

Week End, Brazil, and Purple Noon are still floating about in the mail, so I haven't watched the BD versions yet. I bought several other Criterions, but they were back catalogue catch-up titles. At one point, I had Forgiveness of Blood on pre-order, but I cancelled it. I'll watch it on Netflix before I determine whether or not I want to actually buy it. Alambrista! is on my wishlist, but I'm hesitant about blind buying it.

I've watched the following, but declined purchasing (some I watched prior to them being announced, and never liked them to begin with, ie Tennenbaums and The Game):
Belle de jour (just couldn't really get into it, might try it again)
La Jetee/Sans Soleil
The Last Days of Disco
A Night to Remember
The Royal Tennenbaums
The Game
Being John Malkovich
The Gold Rush (sorry P@T!)
Heaven's Gate
Tiny Furniture (I didn't enjoy it, but I still think some people were far too harsh on the film and Dunham. It was better than A Safe Place. Seriously.)

I missed the cheapo January pre-orders in Canada, so some of those titles will be grabbed on my trip to NH in April, along with Ministry of Fear, but for 2013, I've grabbed so far:

On The Waterfront
The Ballad of Namayara
Sansho the Baliff
The Blob
Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.

I'm happy. There was at least one title a month last year, and this year is shapping up to be just as good.

Problem is, I love Elephant Man, and really like Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart and Lost Highway. So I am a fan. Although I hate Mulholland Drive. . I guess I like Lynch up to a point.

I think it's definitely a possibility. There will be many more films released in 2013 that aren't in the New Year's card. There may be some teased in the card that don't see release this year.

If they could snag one Lynch film I don't see why not others. Eraserhead should sell very well on blu-ray and hopefully lead to more...

Like it or not, it's what made Mel Brooks hire Lynch for The Elephant Man. I don't think it's very "watchable" myself, and I'm a huge Lynch fan, but I still like it for what it is.

Well, for one, Lynch owns Eraserhead, as far as I know. That's how he could do his own DVD release. He doesn't own his other titles.
