I disagree. I had to eliminate some excellent films from my top 20 when adding in Killer Joe, Anatolia, etc.

I just got done watching Ozu's Tokyo Story. A bit overlong, but what an amazing film it is. I really hope it comes to Blu-Ray soon.

You may like "Moon." It's "better" in some ways, as a space isolation story, anyway. What really grabbed people's attention about 2001 was that the spaceships didn't look fake. It was an effects breakthrough.

Add: I don't think there is any kind of coherent story in 2001, as a whole.

That's what kept me going for so long, too.

I'm not a big science fiction fan, but I did enjoy For All Mankind documentary.

Moon was a great return to traditional sci fi movie. David Bowie's son is a great director. I also enjoyed Source Code.

I saw 2001 in 70 mm a couple months ago. May have been the best theatrical experience of my life.

Awesome, wow, I can only imagine.

Makes me think of this, from Costa's Top 10 list: "In a normal world, one would go out and walk into just any theater to see a film by Jacques Tati. Or Chaplin."

January - March:
21 Jump Street (better than expected), Act Of Valor (neutral), Chronicle (neutral), Contraband (disliked / over-hyped), Gone (disliked), Goon (one of the worst movies that I've ever seen) The Hunger Games (disliked), Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (disliked), Man On A Ledge (neutral), Project X (neutral), Safe House (disliked / terrible), The Woman In Black (disliked / Harry Potter: Ghost Hunter)

April - June:
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (stupid), American Reunion (better than expected, but they should stop making these movies, in my opinion), The Cabin In The Woods (disliked a lot), The Chernobyl Diaries (garbage), Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (enjoyed it quite a bit), Magic Mike (a lot better than I expected), Moonrise Kingdom (one of my least favorite Anderson films), Rock Of Ages (enjoyed it / love 80s music), Ted (the only funny moments were in the trailer), That's My Boy (the better Sandler film from the past decade or so, but still not saying much), The Three Stooges (they shouldn't have wasted the money making this)

July - September:
The Campaign (I wish a good comedy would come out for once), Compliance (loved it), Cosmopolis (very engrossing although I didn't understand it too well), The Dark Knight Rises (entertaining), End Of Watch (very good!), The Expendables 2 (exciting action popcorn flick), Hope Springs (terrible), Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D (I actually enjoyed this one a lot more than most of the movies of this year which is pretty embarrassing), Killer Joe (I didn't see the hype surrounding this. McConaughey did a good job, but I didn't take a lot from it besides the chicken thing ), Lawless (one the best of 2012), Looper (a lot better than I originally thought), The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (excellent film), Resident Evil: Retribution (terrible and not enjoyable anymore), Savages (loved it - Stone's best in a while), Total Recall (disliked), The Words (fantastic)

October - December:
Argo (overrated), Django Unchained (awesome), Flight (decent), Holy Motors (so good!), Killing Them Softly (I can understand why it received negative reviews, but I was neutral towards it), Les Miserables (not as good as I expected but still fun), The Paperboy (meh...), Pitch Perfect (a lot better than expected), Silver Linings Playbook (one of my favorite films of all time), Sinister (one of the more creepier films from the past 10 years or so), Skyfall (one of the best Bond films in a while), Smashed (absolutely terrible), Taken 2 (entertaining but the first one is far more superior), Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 (Thank God that this stupid series is over), Zero Dark Thirty (fantastic!)

Overall my top ten, well eleven, films of the year (in order):

1. Silver Linings Playbook
2. Zero Dark Thirty
3. Lawless
4. Holy Motors
5. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
6. The Words
7. Django Unchained
8. Compliance
9. Savages
10. End Of Watch
11. Rock Of Ages

You really don't know how jealous I am! The Cinemark classic series presentation l attended in January looked no better than the BluRay.

I'd say so for me, too

You know... I thought it was a somewhat 'weak' year overall, and find this year already better.

The Blu-ray of Anton Corbijn's Control is quite incredible, and the format brings out the best in Corbijn's black-and-white images.

Next up on my Blu-ray stack... Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious!

Looking forward to seeing how this Notorious Blu-ray compares to my old Criterion DVD of the film.

I dearly love 2001: A Space Odyssey, and I need to buy that Blu-ray someday. I prefer Solaris as a science fiction film, but 2001 is a powerhouse.

My favorite Kubrick film by far, however, is The Shining.

I dunno.. I'm not going to bother. I'll just second what someone else said. My taste must be really adjusted to the pacing of "arthouse" film because I really don't find 2001 to be that slow, especially compared to some of the other films that get love around here. It's an enthralling experience.

We're listing 2012 movies?

My favorite 2012 film, by far, was The Grey.

My favorite 2013 movie is Malick's To the Wonder. My second favorite 2013 movie is Oblivion. Those are the only two new movies that I've seen so far this year, so it was rather easy to compile this list.

I think so

I really really loved To the Wonder...and it's only my 3rd favorite of this year, so yeah...liking this year a lot already.
