I believe Kore-eda's Still Walking is part of the deal. It would be amazing if they also release Nobody Knows on Blu as well. Cause I think IFC's dvd is out of print.

I'm not knocking these films at all. But I made a commitment to purchase all of the Blu-Ray Criterions. And it feels like these "selections" are less about being excellent films (although some of them certainly are) and more about a business deal with another company. |

The repo should be quite easy to find on AllPosters and such after the festival. Originals have to be from France I think, and I guarantee you I'll be hunting eBay.fr in May...

![]() And my commitment isn't all the absurd judging by the numbers printed on the spines.. Clearly if you've ever read this thread you'd know that many others have come to feel as strongly about Criterion's past selections that they would make a similar commitment. |

You mean their "actual decisions" to release The Rock, Armageddon, etc?
They're not going to make everyone happy all the time. They're still the best. Who else would release a R1 Marienbad Blu-ray? (Studio Canal doesn't count). Last edited by ShellOilJunior; 04-09-2010 at 07:50 PM. |

"Since 1984, the Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films...."
They aren't all meant to be classics. The partnership with IFC allows Criterion to have access to movies that were recently well regarded in the arthouse scene and publish them. |

Because they were all in stock. It took mine (modest batch of 4) about a month and a half.

Also how long ago were The Rock and Armageddon released? Will they never live that down? Quote:

cheapchildren, it's *ALWAYS* been about business. if a company doesn't make profits, it goes OUT of business
![]() Criterion, like any movie releaser, gauges market interest and profitability/ROI and sees what will sell (or not) and makes choices accordingly. |

But when a company touts itself as a golden standard of film selection, this kind of goes against that. Just sayin' ![]() |

I like them having the deal with IFC. There are some great movies that have been released and I'm glad it's Criterion doing it.
Gomorra Hunger Che Antichrist We probably would have to deal with some bare bones, crappy transfer, and awful audio if it was another studio releasing it. You also have to think that Criterion needs to make money to stay alive. To me, this deal is a very good thing. |
