I watched "Days of Heaven" last night and found the movie visually stunning. I had a major problem with the child's voice-over during the movie. I swear I could not understand what she was saying about 75% of the time. Maybe after re-watching it several times I will get used to her - to say the least - irritatting voice and learn how to understand her and I will get the full enjoyment of the movie. I found myself wishing about 1/2 of the way through the movie that it came with English sub-titles.

Edit: I must add that I loved everything else about this movie - enough that I want to re-watch it and pay special attention when she speaks so I can fully understand. I am after all. an old geezer, and my hearing ain't what it used to be.

re: EE, are you sure it's not just the 'magic hour lighting' bouncing off objects/actors? look at indoor scenes. there should not be EE on indoor scenes. therefore there is no EE. it's simply the sunbeam natural light bouncing off of actors/etc.

re: ccfixx, what is the absolute worst/disgusting thing that you've seen (outside of snuff p0rn)

???????????????? I have pushed every button and tried every option I can find on my copy. I see no option to turn on or off sub-titles. (I'm doing better at understanding her this time however.....guess it just takes getting used to.)

As far as I know, every Criterion release (especially blu-ray releases) comes with English subtitles, including the English language releases. So, you're missing something it seems. Just read the review on this site for "Days Of Heaven" and you'll see that there are English subtitles listed.

Quoted from the review on this site;

There is only one audio track on this Blu-ray disc: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. For the record, Criterion have provided optional English subtitles for the main feature.

So you are apparently correct, but I'll be darned if I can find out how to turn them on. Maybe someone else knows how. I'm headed for bed now; I'll try again later. Thanks for the information.

I don't think there is a menu item for them on English-language Criterion releases, but you can always press the 'Subtitle' button on your remote and that should let you switch through the options (in this case, probably just No Subtitles and English Subtitles).

Since it appears The Thin Red Line and Antichrist are going to be Autumn releases, what's the consensus (lol) on July releases?

If I remember correctly, The Red Shoes and The Four Feathers are the only ones left unannouced that were hinted at in the Criterion New Year's Drawing. So I would think those two would be likely canidates to be announced.

I recall IFC titles in the original announcement last Sept that are still unreleased too ... Y Tu Mama Tambien and Following, for example.
