I never said that's what it meant. But considering the brief lapse of time between the upgrades of Wild Strawberries and Autumn Sonata, it wouldn't be that shocking.

As much as I would like to wait on blu releases, I'll likely pull the trigger on DVDs of Nostalgia and The Mirror soon, from AE and Kino respectively.

We MUST be due a Kurosawa (or a set of 'em) this announcement, right?

Haven't seen The Proposition. Been tempted to pick it up because it's so cheap, but just can't bite the bullet.
You really should consider a purchase, Sammy. It's an incredibly beautiful and visceral film. Also, I think it's Cave's best screenplay. None of the glaring logic issues and contrivances of his latest (sorry, I won't bash Lawless here again) are to be found.

I'd be surprised if you don't think it's one of the very best Westerns (top three) of the millennium.

I wish Ghosts of the Civil Dead would get a US release.

Agree with you on the character development. My favorite part of the film was the present-day sequence, and that had the most character development.
Jay, That's unfortunate. I wish there was substantially more footage. The movie will never be 100% complete in my eyes.

Yes, the modern day story was the only one that didn't feel like it was made just for the sake of art design (barely).

(Thanks for reminding me to dive into the supplementary features. I will do so very soon)

I have a feeling I'll like it. I know it won't top Jesse James for me, but I won't be holding that against it.

Might pick it up this week, actually.

I would like to see a Criterion release of Wim Wender's The Million Dollar Hotel. And Until the End of the World, which is unlikely.

I don't mean to pressure you. All I can say is that I would reccomend it very highly.

I just got chills over the fact that you like Jesse James that much. Amazing, criminally underrated movie.

*Killing Them Softly & Lawless were two of my most anticipated films of 2012.

It's among the best of the 21st century. I love it immensely. And it's not even my favorite film of 2007! What a year.

Ugh, words can't express my disappointment for Killing Them Softly. Did you like it?

Welcome back. I haven't seen you around here in a while.

I was pretty disappointed with Killing Them Softly, as well. It wasn't the worst of last year, but I was still expecting more.

I was very disappointed as well. The only thing that kept my interest were a few great set pieces and expert song choices. Unfortunately it is a lumbering, unsubtle behemoth. At a few points (the ending especially) I nearly let out laughter.

On the other side, I do think Pro-B mounted a good defense for it. His review is well worth reading, Sammy.

(What a year indeed my #1 and #3 films of the year were shot three hours away from where I live)

For me, 2013 is... Well, I hope it gets better.

I will be surprised if To the Wonder gets dethroned at this point, but there are some films that I'm really looking forward to checking out. Right now, All Is Lost is the main blip on my radar.

Owl, there has been some tremendous stuff this year. All of my 3.5, 4 star rated films come with my highest deal of approval.

If you have Netflix, I highly reccomend seeking Lore out. I would be surprised if it doesn't end up on my top 5 for the year.

(I apologize for bashing that Hillcoat movie you like so much. )

Actually, you'll be happy to learn that a Criterion release of Until the End of the World isn't so unlikely. Wim Wenders himself confirmed it (in addition to the Road Trilogy), if I remember correctly.

2013 has been a great year so far, I think. At this point of the year, there's typically 1 or 2 films MAX that I really love. This year, already several: Before Midnight, Frances Ha, Blue Jasmine, Short Term 12, Spring Breakers. I think this could rival 2007 as my favorite recent year in film.

Just got my copies of Seconds and The 400 Blows in the mail today. Looking forward to watching both of these for the first time. Both blind buys off the recommendations from others here and the description for Seconds. My Criterion collection is growing quickly. Woot!

Here's looking forward to hearing your thoughts about Seconds. It's my favorite Criterion in recent memory.
